Gingrich 'at the end of his line,' major donor says

Casino titan Sheldon Adelson, who has almost single-handedly bankrolled a "super PAC" backing Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign, now believes Gingrich is "at the end of his line."....

Speaking to a group outside his Las Vegas hotel and casino, The Venetian, Adelson earlier this week criticized GOP front-runner Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, but acknowledged that his preferred candidate has little hope of becoming the nominee....

'Cause, I mean, mathematically, he can't get anywhere near the numbers, and there's not - unlikely there'll be a brokered convention."

Adelson, along with his wife and children, has donated $16.5 million to Winning Our Future, a super PAC that was instrumental in paying for advertising to boost Gingrich's cash-strapped campaign....

Adelson was speaking informally while attending the Jewish Federations of North America's TribeFest, which was hosted at The Venetian.

He criticized Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, for being too focused on social issues. Adelson described himself as a "social liberal" who is pro-choice on abortion.

"I know Rick; I like him," Adelson said. "We're friendly. But I got to tell you something: I don't want him to run my country."

Turning to Romney, Adelson sounded frustrated by the former Massachusetts governor's unwillingness to commit to his causes.

"He's not the bold decision-maker like Newt Gingrich is," Adelson said. "He doesn't want to - every time I talk to him, he says, 'Well, let me think about it.' "

Adelson said he had talked to both Romney and Gingrich about agreeing to choose the other as a vice presidential nominee. Gingrich, he said, rebuffed the idea because it would make it harder to gain much-needed support from governors in other states.

"Newt says, 'Listen....

Unfortunately, Newt’s been running an IQ 120 and above campaign, with an electorate which averages 100.

Unless there is a brokered convention I don’t see much hope for the Newtster.

Unless there is a brokered convention I don’t see much hope for AMERICA. It's about AMERICA! Newt is the man to lead her!

Ditto- Rush has been in the bag for Romney/Bain/Clear Channel from Day One.

Could you be good enough to quote me where he has been in the bag for Romney? It is clear that he has been behind Santorum without saying so. Levin and Beck also have been beind Rick but will actually say so outright. Hannity and Huwitt is your man for being in the tank for Milt this whole time.

BTW, what is your beef with Clear Channel all about? That is the type of stuff popular with the Media Matters/ Radical Left types trying to shut down talk radio.

“Unless there is a brokered convention I don’t see much hope for AMERICA.”

Agreed. I guess I’ve become quite pessimistic in my old age. I just don’t see it happening. That’s not to say that I’m not going to pray for it. I’d vote for my cat if it would help.

That is exactly right! And voters do not have their eyes open. They are voting who they like and not on who is THE BEST CANDIDATE.

No one can beat Obama like Newt can and NO ONE knows DC and AMERICA like Newt does. The other candidates/GOP E know that - but Newt is conservative - and they don’t want him, they want Mitt the liberal. Dumb sh!! that he is!

I had to look it up. The last time (before 2008) that a sitting governor ran for vice-president was 1948-- Earl Warren on the ticket with Tom Dewey.

Dewey had picked another sitting governor, John W. Bricker of Ohio four years earlier.

Oh, here comes Rush Robot #2... Well, there’s only 2 of you, so, it’s still not a fair fight. But I’m sure more will come to your aid— what do you got in defense of Romney supporting Rush?

Wow, and Newt takes money from this sleaze?

“Unless there is a brokered convention I don’t see much hope for AMERICA. It’s about AMERICA!”

America and Americans, like Russia and Russians, will survive.

The United States, like the Soviet Union, will shatter and implode under its own weight, debt and bureacratic paranoia.

Nation states come and go. Peoples are more enduring.

A lot of people support Rush. Are you so desperate to maintain your narrative that you engage in backwards arguments? Good to see you so knee-jerkable. I've been listening to Rush since 99, so I can pretty definitively say that your characterization of him (as well as allegations about Clear Channel) is something you've pulled out of your own ass.

I understand. It’s the same old crapola every election. It’s not the BEST Candidate but the one who can buy election/votes/AMERICA! And that candidate is NEVER the best or near it. This time it is the worst of the worst against the worst of the worst on the other side.

America is held captive by money and power and propaganda. And voters NEVER learn because the media is teaching them. In this case, as it looks now, evil wins no matter what. I’m not voting for evil, I’ll do my civic duty for America the Beautiful by writing in. I won’t vote to put her in the hands of evil. TOO many have fought and died for her/our freedoms, I’m not giving it away.

MITT/BARRY both PRO ABORTION, PRO HOMO, anti-traditional marriage, appointment of liberal judges who rule from the bench and Big Gov’t socialistic healthcare. That is NOT America! FUGOPE

If there is no brokered convention and sure-loser Romney is the nominee then I think Newt should mount a 3rd party run.

I know the argument against that.

-Ensures an Obama win.

But I’m telling you that Newt simply must be in the debates!

Zero, Romney and Newt...with America watching. You know what could happen there with a guy like Newt loaded for bear ;-)

Do I think Newt could win as a 3rd party candidate? NO, not a chance. But Romney has no chance either...and even if he did, what exactly would we have?

Newt could stay in until after any debates, refrain from attacking Romney and as the finish line approaches he could demand public promises from Romney in exchange for his withdrawal from the race and an endorsement to get his followers to vote for Romney. Newt could also wrangle a high-level position in the administration.

If Newt did this I don’t see how it would be a bad thing.
I don’t think Romney could win without Newt at the debates destroying Obama. And better a Romney in the white house after making certain promises in public than the sure end of America that Zero’s 2nd term would be.

Did you say Rushbot?

Hey Vin. Since when did the guy who was first to slam Obummer with his "I hope he fails" mantra become a pariah around here? Since when is the guy who called out the slut and the Rats charade on the public become a pariah around here? I did smell something up with you when you took the unusual move on FR to cite Clear Channel as an issue for you. Very interesting. I am sure other here have taken note as well.

As for your question, if you could read English, my last post should have answered it.

A lot of people support Rush
***********
I’m not interested in a lot of people, Rush Robot. I directed my comment to you. He’s in the bag for Romney- he always has been- got it!

Is limbaugh’s stated policy that he always supports for the most conservative in the race, Robot?

Now— let’s go- not other people- you and me-—let’s compete in the arena of ideas, robot. You started it- now finish it.

Sounds good, I hope you are comfy with your remarks. We helped the Soviets and communism - who helps us? Our own Americans don’t want FREEDOM! They are mimicking the media like sheep.

The ‘most electable’ and ‘this one SAYS he’s conservative’ is how they vote without really looking at the candidates. A few voters were interviewed and those few said they wanted Newt but didn’t think he was electable. Where did they get that from? THE MEDIA!! Anyone but Obama - a mantra designed for Mitt!!! And people repeat it and vote for who they are told is the most electable!! You say people are enduring - well, you don’t know that - they are too too comfy and haven’t been tested yet! They can’t even think for themselves and what/who is BEST for AMERICA!!

Since when is the guy who called out the slut

That was a brilliant tactical move. Divert attention from Obama’s complete economic failure. Let’s all talk about sluts for 3 weeks!
