No safety training required to get gun permit (liberal columnist shocked to discover 2nd amendment)
The Seattle Times ^ | March 29, 2012 | Nicole Brodeur

Nobody likes to be wrong, especially when it comes to gun laws.

In a recent column lamenting the accidental shootings of three children — two of them fatal — I noted that one of the guns was owned by someone with a state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon. Surely, I said, he had received some safety training before being issued a permit to carry — right?

Wrong.

Getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Washington state is as easy as buying a new set of tires. There's a bit of paperwork, and you may have to sit for a spell while they make sure your record is clean. But you can be out and packing in less than an hour. You don't even have to know how to shoot your own gun. Just get on out there!

Sometimes I feel like liberals come from a different planet. A Seattle Times columnist is shocked to discover that Washington State allows people to get concealed carry permits without first forcing them to go through firearms training.

When they look at the police blotter they just see the oppressed. They’re functionally insane.

It’s also disheartening that we have to get a permit to excersize a right.

I fully agree. Even the permit should not be necessary.

However, the permit is only required if you want to carry concealed, which leads me to the funniest thing about the article: The columnist is so horrified by the lack of a training requirement for a concealed carry permit, yet seems totally oblivious to the fact that Washington is an open carry state. You don’t even need a permit if you’re displaying your weapon proudly on your hip.

She has a point. Maybe if there was a a class, test and fee before people exercised potentially dangerous rights, like voting or having kids....

I don’t think that the liberal would like requiring training before voting.

In New York, Chicago and Los Angeles why would you need training when you don’t need a permit, if you are a THUG?
Only law abiding Citizens are required to jump trough the hoops.

According to Freakanomics (it’s a book for those who don’t know), more children die every year in a household with a pool than in a household with a gun. All I want to know is, where are the pool permits? Or let alone the hot iron permits, the ‘I’m leaving an electrical outlet not covered’ permits, the toaster permits (since you never know who has one and doesn’t know not to use it in the bathtub), the kitchen knife permit, the power tools permit, etc. Seriously, an gun accident is obviously unfortunate, but there is risk in literally everything life. On the plus side, at least the author acknowledged the 2nd amendment.

I thought the only training needed for firearms was bullet placement...the bullet goes into the bad guy and not anybody else.

If Seattle didn’t have so much crime, esp. from drug-dealing, people wouldn’t need concealed permits or guns.

Thank the Red Chinese for flooding the state with heroin and other drugs as far back as the 1980’s, thru Vancouver, Canada.

And thank the marxists in the Seattle govt who have made it like a little Kremlin.

And yet, these same safety-minded people bristle at the idea of a uniform requirement for safety training. I don't get it.

No, you don't, sweetie.

Nicole Brodeur is a whiny, bleeding heart liberal (but I repeat myself) who has written numerous articles about firearms or incidents involving them. She certainly isn’t surprised to know about this “lack of training requirement” for a concealed carry permit. (Do a search for “Nicole Brodeur Seattle Times firearms” and see the articles she’s written)

She’s just toeing the Marxist line - which she wholeheartedly endorses and believes in - and providing the required inflammatory material that people like the Brady Bunch and others can point to for more ammunition against firearms and the second amendment.

This is an election year and she and the Times will work hard to stir up everything they can to get the liberal viewpoint out in front of the sheeple public.

I’m sure one of her articles in the future will cover the raids on prostitutes and dirty bookstores, as every election year, like clockwork, those things take place and are given major publicity in the leftist media. Queen Christine just signed an anti-prostitution bill, natch. Gotta show how swell your bought and paid for gov’t is working with smoke and mirrors so the public never even asks about all the corrupt public officials, kickbacks and sleazy dealings that go on at every level of gov’t.

I’m really amazed that the comments on the article weren’t closed or deleted, as almost all of them pointed out just how mistaken her article is... no, that would require her being unaware of the truth to be ‘mistaken’... how her LIES are so obvious and transparent. I suspect the comments will be deleted once the editorial staff gets back off coffee break.

She wouldn’t, they don’t even like proof being required that you are who you say you are. Or that you’re not a dead person.

Well heck, thugs don’t need training, they can even shoot sideways! And they can spray bullets from a moving vehicle at tricky targets like sleeping toddlers!

To me the fact that there is any paperwork or even a permitting process is an infringement of the 2nd amendment.

This should really shock her. In most places you don’t need a permit to get a gun.

What safety training does one need to receive to exercise one’s first amendment rights?

Reading Ms Brodeur’s nonsense i find that apparently no training of any kind is necessary.

I would agree to requiring training before a person exercises their 2nd Amendment rights just as soon as we start requiring training before a person can vote.
