Gov. Christie Arrives in Israel
Arutz Sheva ^ | April 1, 2012 | Rachel Hirshfeld

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) landed in Israel Sunday for a four-day trip intended to “strengthen New Jersey’s economic and diplomatic relationships with foreign nations,” his office announced.

The trip, which is being labeled as the "Jersey to Jerusalem Trade Mission," includes members of the state’s Jewish and business communities, as well as the governor’s family. Christie’s office said he is scheduled to meet with diplomatic leaders and honor the region’s people, traditions and culture.

Christie also intends on travelling to Jordan where he will meet with King Abdullah II, before returning to New Jersey on Easter Sunday.

“It isn’t uncommon for governors to travel to Israel on trade missions, but the gesture is likely to feed speculation that Christie is laying the groundwork for higher office. High-profile visits to Israel have become a rite of passage for potential presidential candidates as they work to shore up their foreign-policy credentials and reassure conservatives that they support the strategic ally,” The Hill explained.

The trip is being co-sponsored by The Republican Jewish Coalition and Choose New Jersey, a nonprofit organization established by business executives to expand the state’s economy, according to the Star-Ledger newspaper.

Shoring up foreign policy credentials for a possible VP slot?

Don't think Christie is a reasonable VP choice in the less than optimal scenario of Romney getting the presidential nomination. Both are or were Northeastern governors, both are from the "moderate" wing of the party. Not much balance there, neither geographical nor ideological.

Probably Christie's trip to Israel is geared more to the Jewish vote in NJ next year, where he did well - for a Republican - in his 2009 election.

There’s going to be a shortage of bagels and macaroons in Israel as a result of this visit.

He is a walking dead man...no, not a bullet will get him..it is his own gluttony that will lead him to an early death from Heart Attack.
I hope to god this man is not on the ticket as VP..can you imagine anything scarier than a Romney/Christie ticket.
I think the republicans are in deep kimshi as it is with the nomination process. I am not encouraged at all about this election and the future of this country.

When that fat bucket of RINO pig guts finally explodes his aorta, the undertakers will have to use flensing knives to fit him in a coffin. He is morally and physically obscene. Zero self esteem. Anyone who hates himself as much as does Chris Crisco most probably needs power over others like the rest of us need oxygen. What sort of inner demons make a man go that route?

You may think it isn’t a good pairing, and I may agree. But politically it might work. Back when Clinton was elected I remarked that it took 2 southerners on the ticket to for the Democrats to win. They had lost 3 elections in a row prior to that, and really only had southerners for 2 generations prior - Carter, LBJ. You have to go back 50 years for a Northern Democrat, until Obama which broke the mold.

Now maybe a turn of the tables might work politically. 2 North Eastern Republicans might be the ticket to bring some of the rust belt states over. Not sure what the electoral map will look like but GOP probably needs at least one of PA or OH, if they can’t hold states like CO and IA. Not sure if that ticket can attract VA or NM but maybe it could swing FL.
