Former Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said Sunday that the so-called individual mandate is "not really necessary" to the federal health care overhaul, and said a Supreme Court decision to invalidate the provision could end up helping President Obama.
The Supreme Court met privately on Friday to discuss the case, though a decision is not expected to be made public until June.
A central challenge in the case was over whether the requirement that Americans buy health insurance is constitutional. Further, the justices heard arguments on whether a ruling against the mandate should invalidate the health care law as a whole.

Of course it is not “necessary”! These folks will puts for total Government control regardless of who pays - after all when the Federal Government controls you, what does it matter?
We are lost if this continues... Maybe it is simply because of the majority voting for their benefits. Maybe it is because we have dropped border control and let in enough people that the majority can vote for their own benefits.
America seems to be lost to the normal voter. Australia is looking nice these days.
He is right, to a point. The individual mandate isn’t needed. Of course the combination of no mandate and no pre-existing condition restrictions will make the cost of the program explode.

Liberals like Dean will just spend tax money to pay for the uninsured. They do not care if national debt goes up or taxes go up.
This whole thing is not about health care,it’s about control.
I understand New Zealand’s national debt is 30% of their GDP whereas we’ve exceeded 100% debt to GDP in America already and the political class is unconcerned, printing more money than we can ever imagine OR repay.

As I recall Howard Dean also said that there was no doubt that the individual mandate was constitutional.
When marxists talk it is it is just a means to arrive at their desired results.

Didn’t Limbaugh bring up the topic of “severability” clause several days ago?
The point was that Congress didn’t put in the severability clause which stipulated that if any part of the bill is found invalid, the rest of the bill remains in force. Without this clause in the bill, the whole thing would be found void if any part is found unconstitutional.
Has this issue found to be false over the last few days?
It would have made it easier for them, but no, it’s not really necessary.
The real objective is single-payer “health care” where the government is the single payer, collecting from us all and imposing its policies on us all in every aspect of our lives.
It was a distraction.
I’m guessing that SCOTUS will strike down the Individual Mandate but as to not be seen as partisans will allow the law to be severable. I’m also going to guess that the justices will issue a vague warning to the administration that if a lawsuit is brought forward on the religious freedom aspect the courts will rule against the administration.
Okaaaaaay.
