Occupiers march to a new beat

Occupy Boston made a festive return to Dewey Square yesterday with food carts, bongo drums, legal advisers and signs mocking GOP candidates — but no tents or sleeping bags.

“We’re past the point of permanent occupying,” Dave Lenhert told the Herald before he set off, with about 100 others, for the protest group’s April Fools’ Day march through the city’s streets. “It was a great way to make a splash,” he said of the controversial tent city on the Rose Kennedy Greenway last fall, “but now we’re going to make more pointed statements, by addressing the issues one thing at a time.”

Those issues include public transportation. On Wednesday, Occupy will team up with the Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589 to demand transit system improvements. On Saturday, Occupiers return to the streets to denounce the slaying of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

“We’re coming back stronger,” said occupier Shane Aspinall, 26. “A lot of us spent the winter months getting smarter about our movement.”

The 99 percenters carried signs mocking GOP candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. And while they don’t endorse candidates, Democrats including Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren have expressed support for them, which pundits said could be hazardous as the fall elections draw nearer.

“Occupy doesn’t help her. She needs to win over white men. That’s what the race boils down to. And that demographic is also predisposed against Occupy,” said Suffolk University Political Research Center’s David Paleologos, noting that Occupy plays better with women and younger voters. Warren has been distancing herself since last fall when she initially declared herself the “intellectual founder” of the Occupy movement, something U.S. Sen. Scott Brown’s campaign has been reluctant to let her forget.

Onlookers had mixed reactions yesterday. “I’m glad they’re back,” said John Resek of Newton. “They’re the most exciting thing that’s happening in American politics today.”

But Robb Marchione of Boston called the group — which had begun bouncing brightly colored balls on a parachute — annoying: “I agree with some of their views about the economic disparity in this country and how some people don’t get a fair shake, but I just don’t see how bouncing a ball around is going to spread that message.”

Oh, just wait until the summer -- I'm pretty sure that things will get much more exciting!

“It was a great way to make a splash”

Urinating on the sidewalk? Pouring your unsanitary waste down a city drain?

Yeah, you made a splash alright.

It looks like the Community Agitator in Chief has taken them in hand. It would be wonderful if some clever computer hacker could ‘follow the money’.

The inaugural Occupy March ... held on April Fool’s Day.

The irony must escape them.

“God bless them,” Pelosi said, “for their spontaneity. It’s independent ... it’s young, it’s spontaneous, and it’s focused. And it’s going to be effective.”

Right day, right group of fools. Almost surreal that the cosmic forces all aligned to come together like that. LOL! Be careful though, most of them are above the law (they think) and some may be “armed”.

As Gateway Pundit says, “Yeah, they’re just like the Tea Party.”

TEA PARTY: No rapes; no sexual assaults; no filth or litter left behind; no drug use; no anti-Semitism; no racism; no animal assaults; no open sex; no harassment of school children; no broken laws; no open masturbation in front of children; no using of children as human shields; no assaults on police; no denying others the right to free speech or assembly; no shoving elderly ladies down the steps; no open pooping on sidewalks, on police cars, or in bank lobbies; no thefts; no vandalism; no broken windows; no breaking into court houses (as in St. Louis); no deaths; no drug-resistant TB; no ringworm epidemic; NO ARRESTS.

OCCUPIERS: ALL OF THE ABOVE.
