Self-Defense Killings Rise Nationwide; Ozarkers Take Action As Well(MO)

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The case is shedding new light on what are considered "justifiable" killings. Across the United States the number of people who claim they killed in self defense has doubled over the past decade.

There's no one Missouri agency that tracks shootings and killings in what's claimed to be self-defense, but according to the Greene County Sheriff more homeowners are taking defensive action for a very good reason.

These three homeowners were unarmed:

"This is a home invasion and we're going to shoot you," a Springfield family told us in February.

"They knocked me down and first thing hit me," an elderly Springfield woman told us in January.

This is what happene:

"They took my wallet, my checkbook, my money, everything I had that was important," the woman explained.

"They done hit me three, four times with a gun," the victim of the February home invasion said, showing us wounds to his head and face.

"Pretty bad, they were pretty bad off," a young man told us after he discoverd his grandparents in their Greene County home, rendered helpless after being beaten by the butt of an ax.

These homeowners were armed:

"A guy wearing all black, black ski mask pointed a large knife at me," a Springfield man told us in 2010.

"He said, 'I got a gun, I've got a gun, I'm going to kill you,'" a Powersite woman remembered last year.

This is what happened:

"I said 'that's fine, I've got a gun too.'"

"At that point I put a couple of rounds in him," the man said.

More potential victims across the country are taking tips from the Springfield Grandpa and the Powersite woman.

This rise in self-defense killings might help explain the FBI’s report about the drop in violent crimes.

This just won't do. We can't have people taking care of business themselves and shooting more clients of the State.

This is why the pieces of excrement in DC and local state capitols and in newsroooms who presume to rule our lives were looking for someone to make an example of.

Let's double it again! bad guys need to get the idea. You terrorize, loot, rob, or even seriously threaten - you die!

Yea, well, I gotta bad feeling the Gov’t is going to use the Trayvon thing to roll back self-defense rights.

The scare quotes around the word, "justifiable," suggest this a fifth-column media article. Also, there is no source in the article for the sub-headline claim: "Across the country the number of people killed in what the shooters call self-defense has doubled in a decade".

Yep, even here in the heart of the Ozarks we have had too many hot home invasion robberies. I had a visitor ask me recently why I keep my Springfield so close on my desk at the house. I told him it was my possum gun, but it works on all manner of vermin.

It reminds of the story about the cop who stopped a lady and found out she had three loaded handguns in the car. He asked her what she was afraid of, and she answered, “Not a damn thing.”

If people are still committing home invastions, then the current number of justifiable killings is still not enough.

Sounds like “you keep your butt out of my house, and I'll keep my bullet out of your butt” is something even the average dem voter can understand.

Only if Republicans join in --which, as we all know, many will eagerly do.

Note to criminals:

Proceed at your own risk.

At the present time many classes for Concealed Carry Permits are full even 8 years after the first permits were issued.

Another point to ponder:

These are NEW permit holders.

Those who are renewing permits are NOT required to take these classes.

Have a nice day.
