Favorite Son Rick Santorum leads former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 41 - 35 percent among likely voters in Pennsylvania's Republican presidential primary, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Texas U.S. Rep. Ron Paul has 10 percent, with 7 percent for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
With three weeks before the primary, 6 percent of likely voters remain undecided and 37 percent of those who name a candidate say they still could change their mind, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. This is the first look at likely voters and cannot be compared with earlier surveys of registered voters.

It's better for the Republican Party if Santorum stays in the race, 57 percent of likely primary voters say, while 33 percent say it's better for the party if Santorum drops out.

Well how about that, the anti-Santorum propagandist were wrong after all that Romney would gain on Rick in PA and Rick would lose PA again... it seems that’s a broken record they seem to repeat over and over again.... guess they get their talking points from their higher ups in the media.
If you dig through the minutia in this article, one finds this sentence...

The other poll Terry Madonna was selling was total BS based on garbage. I laughed when Rick called him out a Lib Hack today. He is. The other interesting thing is even Romney people want Santorum to stay in this if the 57-33% number is correct. That shows how weak Milt is.
That’s pretty bad though when you can’t break 50 percent in your home State where you served in Congress and the Senate. What was Newt’s margin of victory in his home State of Georgia?

Uh, if you haven’t got the memo, PA is a Commie Pinko state that has slight moments of clarity. There are a ton of GOPe pro choicers here. A conservative anything should be lucky to be leading here. This isn’t some deep Red state like GA.
BTW, who is this Newt you speak of? I only read the polling for candidates in the double digits.

Negative ads will be counterproductive here. Most of us in Pennsylvania know Rick pretty well here. We had him as a senator for 12 years and, here in the 18th district, a congressman for another four.
He is already doing it. We will see how well it works anymore.
Newt won just 47% in his home state, Georgia. Has he won a single delegate since?
Gotta say, the last line of your Post #7 really did make me LOL. That really was funny. But, don’t misunderstand me; I’m not a RINO-Rom fan by any stretch. And, I’d vote for a 3-legged dog before I’d vote for Obama. But, if Rick can’t get 50% in the Primary, can he carry PA in the GE? Just askin’. I’m not being facetious.

Rick was ahead in Michigan and Ohio too until Romney fired up the negative ad blitzkrieg. And we aren’t seeing those ads here yet.

Obama isn’t going to get PA this time. He is hated here by all but the welfare queens and hard core leftists. I find that the old union types really are not interested in voting for him like the last time. I actually see more Kerry Edwards stickers still floating around than Obummers. That can’t be good for him.
He's competing with three others in a blue state. Rather difficult to pick up 50% in this case.
That's a bit overboard. Pennsylvania is a state that leans dem, but it's no California, Massachusetts, or Illinois. For being a liberal-leaning state, it's not very pro-choice either--it was rated as the third most pro-life state in the country. It's real weakness is generally in fiscal issues.
I agree with that but even still 41% in your own state is nothing to write home about. That's sad.

Don't hold your breath. PA hasn't gone R in a presidential election since 1988.
We don't see Newt or Sarah or anyone else riding in on a white horse at the last moment to save us. Freepers, of course, will give Rick a solid majority here. But we're not a majority of the GOP or even of the conservatively inclined GOP.
41-35 is not a very big lead. Just saying. Romney was behind by more than that at one point in Michigan and then went on to win.

Its not sad, its REALITY. Folks, Santorum is milk toast, and is NOT liked in PA. He is far more popular in other parts of the country that he is in his own back yard for good reason.
There is a REASON he was sent packing by 17 points in 06, and in polls taken just this month would lose a rematch by 8-10 right now. The guys not remotely what his backers think he is.
Lived in PA since 1986, and dreamed of a day when the primary vote by the time it got here might matter, and what are my choices? A loser milk toast and a democrat abortionist.
Those of us in PA know the guy and his record, very well, and frankly the fact he currently polling at 41% among republicans is rather suprising.. not because of how low that is, but how high that is for this guy here.

Rick may be a Republican in the mold of Pat Toomey and George W. Bush, but even that would be a significant improvement from Obongo.
Your right about the long spell for a GOP win here, but there is one big change in the state since then. We are now a big gas shale state as opposed to union manufacturing. I think that will matter this year with the way the EPA is operating.
Not true. The most surprising part of this poll is that almost 60% of likely voters want Rick to stay in this as opposed to 30% that want this done with Milt as the guy. There is an incredibly high amount of dissatisfaction with Milt as the nominee if these numbers are good.

Get out of here, I can show you the 1.2 mile tunnel that burned over 1/2 a BILLION DOLLARS that Santorum made sure got funded, just like countless other pork. You are crazy and naive if you think Rick is a fiscal conservative. Not saying Romney is, but Rick is and never been a fiscal conservative.
Who exactly asked for that money for the tunnel? Did Rick force it on you or did his constituents ask for it. You have a problem with tunnel? You should have taken corrective measures in your community by firing all the locals that lobbied for it. Pure nonsense blaming Rick for these project the people of PA asked for.
Maybe a limited govt' guy like yourself would rather have Federal Govt' agencies dole out cash to states to totally cut voters out of any say?
Romney is not stupid. He realizes how close Santorum came to beating him in Michigan, and if that had happened, we today would have an entirely different race. Knocking a candidate out in his own home state, especially a candidate like Santorum who lost his last election there, is not a minor defeat.
Let's hope what happened in Wisconsin doesn't hurt Santorum too badly in Pennsylvania.
What. Are you a comedy writer? Why would Rick team up with a guy that no one wants to vote for? Huckabee won more states in '08 with far less money than Newt had. What in the world would make you think that Rick would need to team up with a guy that took a boat load of cash and was only able to manufacture a win in 2 states, one of which was his home state. That win in GA, BTW, didn't even break 50%.
Face it. The reason we are going to get stuck with Milt is strictly because of Newt being a spoiler. Election results are bearing it out as we speak.

Santorum is an imperfect but acceptable alternative to the self described 'severely conservative' liberal Willard Romney - by far the better of two choices.
