At a range of two miles, the bullet would have had to been fired at a near 45-degree angle, and would have been coming down at a similar angle.

I am sure that any forensic evidence of any kind is verboten, but I'd bet dollars to doughnut holes that the bullet was at no such angle to his sternum.

The bullet was .223 caliber:

Whether what whizzed by the two employees golfing at the 15th hole on Monday was definitely a bullet is one thing but there's no doubt a stray .223-caliber round had to be removed from Flores’ sternum.
