Two days after losing three more primaries, Rick Santorum appears to be in trouble in his home state:
Mitt Romney’s taken the lead in PPP’s newest poll of Rick Santorum’s home state of Pennsylvania. Romney has 42% to 37% for Santorum with Ron Paul at 9% and Newt Gingrich at 6%. The numbers represent a dramatic turnaround from when PPP polled the state a month ago. Romney’s gained 17 points, going from 25% to 42%. Meanwhile Santorum’s dropped 6 points from 43% to 37%, for an overall swing of 23 points in the last four weeks.

That's what makes it interesting. It's a beauty contest (in the midst of a bunch of WTAs). So being non-binding, does that help Santorum or Romney? Thinking it's the former, if he promotes that wisely, or if that aspect even translates downward to PA voters...
That trend will continue from here on out, since Santorum is so deep in the denial that he has no chance, it is starting to annoy most normal people. The further behind he gets, the more he claims that he is gaining and winning. It's actually comical to watch him and his supporters/enablers lose all touch with reality.
The Qinnipiac poll started a week before the PPP one; I think a few % of the difference are just change over time and the effect of the Tuesday primaries.
Santorum may yet win in PA, but it must be noted that he and his staff found it advisable to announce just this morning that the candidate will be taking a four-day break in his campaign.
Big example of this is I never ever believed we would have a president named Hussein....
Like I’ve said in other threads... with Romney all but locked down as the GOP nominee and on schedule to graciously — but convincingly — lose to Obama in November, the opportunity to field-test a strong third-party conservative candidacy may be presenting itself.
While hope for an actual victory at the outset would be unrealistic, the intent this year would be to make a statement that conservatives recognize the GOP is no longer their political home.
The strategic objective would be to build toward future growth as a party that actually gives voice to Tea Partiers and other real conservatives. The GOP isn’t getting it done anymore. The break is going to have to happen sooner or later.
ESPECIALLY so soon after 9/11. But then, Americans aren't known for critical thinking skills. It's all about sound bites that are nothing more than ear-bling.
Santorum’s insane obsession to stay in the race will destroy any hope he might have in the future. This will mark the end of his career in Politics. He is even losing the Evangelicals who mistakenly gave him this foothold in the first place.
It’s getting to the point where it doesn’t much matter who stays in and who drops out.
The outcome is pretty much set and Willard has already shifted to general election mode (at least to a certain extent).
The question is, what do we as conservatives do next. I’m inclined to 3rd party.
and Hussein has a trillion dollar campaign war chest..not to mention the left wing media on his side. Brace yourself for one of the dirtiest elections ever.

It is all over but the shouting…Very disappointing and sad indeed…Romney only chance for defeating Obama is that the gas prices remain high by elections day but any Republican nominee would have defeated Obama because of the high gas prices…Other than that Obama is going to utterly destroy Romney mainly using Bain Capital against him…
I think the throat that needs to be cleared is the one belonging to Mr. Gingrich. Newt, if he can set his ego aside, should campaign FOR Santorum in PA and by doing so prevent the Coronation of King Myth.

Santorum has some warts...but he is NOT Obama 2.0. Romney IS!!! Mr. Gingrich...put your country’s future first, come to PA and point out the candidate differences.

First, I’m not a Romney supporter. Gingrich is my guy and has been the whole way. We need to deal with reality however. If Obama has 4 more years, he’ll continue force feeding his true socialist agenda. Our only hope is taking the senate and increasing numbers in the house, to keep him in check. If Romney is elected (whom I’ll vote for if he’s the nominee), I believe a majority in both houses will force him in to the positions he’s made public during this campaign. Especially overturning Obamacare, if not already struck down. I believe our only hope is to move both houses to the right. When it comes time to pull the lever, who do you want nominating the next supreme court judge (or two), Romney or Obama?

Everyone has to make that decision and I fault no one for the path they decide. For me, I simply hate El presidente more than McRomney. Some feel just the opposite but I figure the Conservatives in the GOP can steer McRomney more than Obomulus and we can primary Willard with Sarah Palin in 2016 if he completely bottoms out-—that would be our 3rd party-—a one-on-one primary battle w/Saracuda in ‘16!
The Romney campaign has vowed to “destroy” Rick in his home state. How nice! So even if PPP’s poll were different(and likely wrong and fueled by the RNC), it would be a brutal three weeks for Rick.
Rick is first and foremost a family man. He cares about his role as father and husband more than you know. What a concept for a politician. He is not running for his own political opportunist gain like someone we know.
I would guess that if he pulls out, he is not succumbing to the Saul Alinsky threats of Bishop Romney and his band of merry thugs...but rather that he considers the effect on his whole family to be a major factor. and he has a special needs child who loves her daddy and needs him.
As for those of you who say that it’s not a good idea to predict that Bam will win because it projects a bad image, where were you when Freepers were eviscerating Rick for no reason at all other than Newt was F for failing?
There is power in stating the truth...It can mobilize and motivate people to work for good.
Romney is a despicable man and the worst candidate the RNC would have ever picked to defeat Hussein. You cannot!counter radical socialism with moderation. It’s never worked before and it won’t work now.
And moderation is a kind word for Mittens. He’s a liberal wolf in sheep’s clothing.

If Rick graciously steps down, I’ll be grieving the loss of a good and honest candidate who could have won the election in November and helped to save America.
You have a good point but I have a long way to go, personally, before I can even consider voting for Romney, for anything, against anybody.
But that’s just me and I’m not trying to sell my point of view, just saying how I feel.
My humble advice is that if you are in a battleground state then do the right thing and vote for Romney who is still better than Obama. However if you are in a state that is certain to go Republican or certain to go democrat then you have the luxury of not voting for President or voting for a third party…but in any case you go and vote for Republican candidates for Congress…Republicans must at least retain the House and hopefully win the Senate so even if Obama wins re-election his damage would be greatly limited.
