Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum holds a four-point lead in his home state in Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the upcoming Pennsylvania Republican Primary.

A new statewide telephone survey finds that 42% of Likely GOP Primary Voters support Santorum, while former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney picks up 38% of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul earns seven percent (7%), and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at six percent (6%). Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

KEYWORDS: elections; ricksantorum
Even with all the "establishment" endorsements from many recently exposed "Faux Conservatives", Santorum is still leading in PA.

Hopefully, we'll see some further good news if Gingrich and Santorum team up.

I just got my Pennsylvania absentee voter's ballot. We are going to pick four delegates each by congressional district and we have to vote for them by name. I'm only personally acquainted with one of the dozen odd candidates on the delegate ballot.

So the presidential vote statewide is basically an advisory vote. The real election is the delegate selection.

If a political junkie like me only knows one of the delegate candidates backing Rick Santorum, how well do you think the average voter is going to do?

I think the fix is now in, but I would like to see Romney again be thwarted in Pennsylvania. Let him continue to feel the pressure of conservatism.

Step aside Rick. The longer you stay in the more apparent it is that the whole Republican primary system is a rigged joke to create the illusion that voters choose the candidate. The Party knows it's poll numbers are paralleling Mitt's, and it's very upsetting.

Question for you on PA voting....

Can a registered Democrat write in a candidate for a Presidential primary?

My reason for asking, there are pockets of conservative registered Democrats in certain areas of PA. Could they write in a Republican challenger on their ballot?

A vote for Romney is a vote for Obamacare and a vote against Conservatism. The folks who have joined the Romney parade are either oblivious to who he is or are not Conservatives.

I'm not voting for Romney (regardless of who his opponent is). I cannot vote against my ideology and my core values.

It has been done symbolically. Such write-in votes are counted and tabulated, at least in election precincts where I've served and the people did their jobs.

People have even been elected to lower offices with write-in votes in Pennsylvania without campaigning. It is not all that unusual in a place with as many small units of government as we have.

However, to answer your question, a write-in vote in a Democrat primary will not be carried over into a Republican primary, and vice versa. Each party's election is considered and tabulated separately.

In my county (Westmoreland), Lynn Swann actually got a sizeable number of Democrat write-in votes in the 2006 Governor primary. It seems a lot of Democrats in this side of the state couldn't stomach Ed Rendell.
