In a hypothetical match-up between King and the top Republican and Democrat, 56 percent of those polled said they would vote for King, followed by 21.8 percent for Summers and 12.2 for Dunlap. About 10 percent were undecided.

Brewer said King is clearly the favorite, but that doesn’t mean he’s a lock.

“If the Democrats nominate a candidate who can take 25 percent of vote, then maybe a Republican can win it with high 30s,” he said.

Angus King is the front-runner, as was expected. Well-known third party candidates usually start out strong, then lose support.

All of the Republicans running are more conservative than Olympia Snowe to one degree or another.

King is a “good government” Democrat. The Independent thing is a sham.

Based on this article, I don’t think the BDN likes Dill.

I’m sure King is ahead but not by that margin.

i sure don’t wanna hear that Summers is the most electable, so we should go with him. If ya wanted someone who is electable, Snowe was your man.

Unfortunately, this race isn’t going to be close. I’ve learned over the past few years that the conservative movement in this state just doesn’t get it. We have ra/ra guys that go to rallies, but won’t volunteer an hour or so a week knocking on doors or calling folks. And the left is well funded, The Maine’s People Alliance has 30 staffed people in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Our side has 3 or 4 volunteers they can depend on. In a retail state, knocking on doors and talking to folks is the most important thing to do.Anyway this senate seat has been liberal/socialist since Snowe’s been there. The few of us that actually do the work in this state need to concentrate on holding the state senate and state house. If we lose the legislature we’re screwed.

“.Anyway this senate seat has been liberal/socialist since Snowe’s been there.”

George Mitchell and Edmund Muskie were to the left of Olympia Snowe.
