2004: Romney signs off on permanent assault weapons ban

. . . . .

In a move that will help keep the streets and neighborhoods of Massachusetts safe, Governor Mitt Romney today signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that forever makes it harder for criminals to get their hands on these dangerous guns.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.

The 2nd Amendment is an excellent litmus test for politicians. And Romney fails miserably.

***“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, ****

Interesting. Years ago the Utah designers and manufacturers of the AMERICAN 180 .22 cal machine gun (NOT the Armalite 180) gave the Mormon Church a large amount of stock in their company as a tithe.

On the other hand, Rick Santorum received an A+ rating from the NRA, and FOUGHT to protect our Second Amendment rights.

NRA CEO said: “He (Rick Santorum) used his influence to get it to the floor. Without that, we would have lost every American gun company.”

Can you imagine how it would be if no guns were manufactured in the USA?

Here’s some background:

‘“He [Rick Santorum] was the most effective advocate of bringing it [legislation to protect gun companies from frivolous lawsuits] to the floor and getting a vote scheduled. He used his influence to get it to the floor. Without that, we would have lost every American gun company.”

– Wayne LaPierre, CEO – National Rifle Association, October 25, 2006’

Ted Nugent asked Romney to promise no gun control in a potential Romney presidential administration. Romney told Nugent there would be no gun control initiatives, and after that promise Nugent announced he was supporting Romney for president.

Thankfully, Romney has never been known to flip-flop.

“You knew I was a snake when you picked me up.”

Yep.

Actually, its the go-pees that knew that and picked him for their undercurrent of support.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Oh yeah, right.

Mr. Willard Big Time I Am A Conservative, HONEST! Romney.

This entire process of the current primary has been sooooo revealing.

The RNC go-pees are destroying themselves.

Me too. I can only conclude that he might think that Romney’s word is worth something, when in fact it isn’t.

Those that support Romney may call themselves, “one-eyed, one -horned, flying, purple people eater(s)”, but they are NOT real conservatives.

That's not a reason to vote for Romney, that's an excuse, and there is a huge difference. Those who want to support Romney are using Obama to disguise that fact.
