WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office told WLOX that the man killed in the shooting at a home on Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road in Waveland is Louie Matranga.

Few details on Saturday's shooting have been released. However, Hancock County Sheriff's officials said they have identified the shooter.

Officials said they have not taken the shooter into custody because they are investigating the possibility that the shooter may have acted in self defense.

I lived in Waveland long ago. It’s a small, easy going town on the Gulf Coast, just west of Bay St. Louis.

.... they are investigating the possibility that the shooter may have acted in self defense.

While commendable in not arresting the homeowner here, the premise for the police, the PoPo, whatever should be, "Is there any reason to believe the homeowner wasn't within his rights to defend his home?" Not did he possibly act in self-defense?

We lived in Slidell, Louisiana back in 1999-2000, but my husband was with the Navy’s river boat unit over in Bay St. Louis (at Stennis). We spent a lot of time in Mississippi, as we had friends living in Pass Christian. Some of the nicest folks on the planet on the Gulf Coast.

Me too. Grandson still lives in Diamondhead. But, what the heck is going on in Hancock County? Did you look at any of the other stories from this past weekend? Becoming like a frontier town.

Pass Christian has one of the best non-New Orleans Mardi Gras parades.
