Jon Lovitz may have been a comedian since he was 15, but for him, a prank involving maple syrup was no laughing matter.
Lovitz took to his Twitter account to decry swastikas and Jew written in maple syrup on the front walkway of a childhood friends home in Northridge. Three girls, who admitted to what the Los Angeles Police called an ill-advised prank, have been permanently expelled from their school, Nobel Middle School, Lovitz tweeted Tuesday.
The prank, which also included feces left on the familys doorstep and toilet paper on the propertys trees, was discovered April 3. The family did not want to be identified.

It was done in my town with weed killer sprayed on well manicured lawn., Very large swastikas.
Horrendous.
If it's an Exxon station, where be the hate?
Being Jewish isn't a crime or a disease or anything.
In fact lots of businesses have signs saying what they are.
They're proud of it, and pay for the signs.
Why do you assume that Judaism is something to be ashamed of and hidden?
The issue is not the writing of "Jew", but of the swastika symbol.
You can take the girls out of Vermont, but you can't take Vermont out of the girls ...
Maybe they were just inspired from the school assignment to be a Muslim for a week.
“Writing “Jew” is an appalling act?”
Yeah, you might not have heard, but this big thing happened in living memory over in Europe,,i think it was especially in Germany. People wearing swastikas were writing “Jew” on the homes and businesses of Jews.
It was some kind of targeting and intimidation thing.
Im not sure of all the details,, maybe someone else knows.
I’ve heard that some of the grand and great-grandfathers of the girls had to go over there and even straighten it out.
Swastikas and writing Jew on the home of a jewish family is 100% unAmerican. But i guess it isn’t serious,,like promoting a blog or anything.
Agree with you 100%. This has nothing to do with the schools. Schools should only be able to expell or discipline for what happens on their property,,,NEVER for what happens when a kid is under the control of a parent.

How horrible! I hope proper punishment is meted out to the stupid girls who did this! I pray that the victims can recover from such a vicious act that no one in their right mind could call a “prank”!!!
Northridge has a large Jewish population too. Sad.
It was the swastika and the word “Jew” together that conveyed the message - and the message was disgusting.
Together, they could justifiably be seen as a death threat.
Suppose someone wrote “Christian” and below that a crescent and star, and then the words “Islam will drain your blood and the blood of your children, Infidel!”?
The public/media outcry may not be the same, probably call it a “youthful prank”, but you might get a sense of what this fammily felt.
Im with you. I think a little public shaming from some WWII vets is what they need. I dont see a crime beyond a misdemeanor, as much as i see kids with a complete absence of education regarding our national history.
This is exactly the same thing as students waving vietcong flags. Disgusting,,
Some folks don't seem to mind.
You can come and spray-paint "Christian" on the road in front of the house all day, until I judge you've done it enough.
I wouldn't figure it to be a hate crime though.
Why is it a hate crime JUST for Jews? To write the name of their religion?
YOU assume that name is an insult. Not me.

Even if you think it is like writing Exxon on front of the gas station. You do realize that only the station owner has the right to do that on private property?
Nobody is saying the family can’t do it if they want. The argument is that nobody else is allowed to.
But then,, you already know that.
Yes, certainly.
Juvenile syrup-drizzling on a sidewalk is earthshaking news.
Carry on, involve the IDF. Do you need some contact info?
According to post #7, it was.
So they'll have at least a few months at a non-magnetic school before they start High School to contemplate why this was a very bad idea. Mom, too. I hope the girls' "adult supervision" is prosecuted for this stunt or at least sued out of her Mercedes.
Here is a bit of trivia: that particular school (Nobel Jr. High) is actually built on the same place Ayn Rand had her house. How appropriate. The tearing down of freedom continues.
