As the National Rifle Association prepares to convene its annual members meetings and exhibits this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri from whence this column will be reporting later in the week an annual orgy of media mayhem is about to unfold, wrapping up with an anti-gun demonstration outside the convention center, this one dedicated to slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin.
For the next six days at least, NRA members from Seattle to Sarasota who are headed to St. Louis will be slandered, smeared and demonized for the sin of defending a constitutionally-protected, fundamental civil right. Just take it from Brady Campaign President Dan Gross, who blames the NRA for Martins death:
"We're heartbroken about this tragedy, but we're not surprised it happened in Florida. The gun lobby has worked very hard to make Florida its armed utopia with a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality."Los Angeles Times
Before the week is out, it would not be surprising to read that someone has dug up evidence that the NRA was responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. The 100th anniversary of that maritime disaster will be observed this week, and since the NRA had existed for 33 years when the unsinkable ocean liner went down on its maiden voyage, it only makes sense that the association be held accountable.
Well, here are a few, as Cheers postman Cliff Clavin would say, "little-known facts" about the NRA that MSNBC probably considers gospel:

I am an endowment member.
The NRA is one of the cornerstones of our precious Second Ammendment. Every SA fan, gun owner, hunter, collector, should be a member. It’s one of are stars in the courts to keep us free. Sure there may be some issues one doesn’t like, but that is no excuse. Join to keep the Second Ammendment strong and well. NRA forever.
NRA gets on my nerves at times, but are good more than bad. I wish they did more homework on their endorsements. They served up a doozy here in my district in a 2006 primary.
I have just became a NRA Life Member.
As soon as I finish ‘Freeping’, I will be calling the NRA to sign up my son as a Life Member... (I have a limited time $300.00 offer for friends and relatives.)
I think I need to celebrate the occasion by buying two new guns... Anyone have a Marlin 336SS,with or without scope, for sell?
The ammunition pile is still growing (see tag).
I wish I was in St. Louis this weekend, maybe Houston next year.
Yep the anti-welf defense cult will be out in force next week.
