I completely agree with your choice of the 12 gauge 870 and the 10/22. The 10/22 is not one of the best .22s but it has the advantage of quickly changeable mags and plenty of high (and low) quality 30, 40, or 50 round mags.
A .22LR out of a rifle barrel will tear the heck out of a human body and it is so easy to just keep firing until the target goes down. The 10/22 as they come are not the most accurate .22 rifles but they shoot pretty well, way better than is needed for across the room or even across the parking lot. With good quality mags they are very reliable and that is what counts.
Next is a pistol to keep beside your bed or in your car. There are so many good choices here that I am not even going to mention anything.
Exactly. And a hit with a .30-06 is very convincing and accurate out to some distance.
Yes, but you wouldn’t want to chop up your Mauser. I bought a Cz24 with a shot out barrel and cracked handguard for $60 and was able to turn it into a real .308 tack driver for a few hundred bucks.
A local dealer has a CZ in nice shape except the bore has a moderate amount of pitting. It might still shoot OK but he wants $300 for it. Just too much for one with a bad bore.
