Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

from Fox to Rush with many stops in between, were so in the tank for Romney

Rush? In the tank for Romney?
You really shouldn't comment about Rush unless you listen to his show, because it makes you look like a complete idiot.

The shadow government may have the fix in for Romney but what’re they gonna do about the Tea Party?

FOX stopped even saying Newt’s name for a long time. Like he wasn’t a candidate at all. Made me so mad. Then of course, there was Britt Hume’s total meltdown about Newt. I stopped watching FOX and Hume then and have barely had it on since. Sick of hearing how great Mitt is with zero mention of Newt.

Oh stop. What do any comments on FR about Santorum have to do with Fox News and Gingrich? You are equating yourself with the power of media? I don’t have to reread any comments I made about Rick Santorum, they were accurate and truthful. Evidently the state of Pennsylvania knew what he was all about, as well. He wasn’t even going to hold his own state, which is why pulled out.

You're absolutely right. A few days ago, before he took his long weekend, Santorum was saying he wasn't concerned about Romney's edge in funds because the people of Pennsylvania knew him. "The people of Pennsylvania know me," is how I think he put it. Then apparently he got some bad internals, bad enough to scare him off. At least the low poll numbers proved Santorum was right about something for once, the people of PA do know him.

Gator— looks like we’re getting hammered with the kids, outta school, outta work, stuck at home, waiting for their acne prescription to be delivered. On Mom’s computer, laden with Skittles, no less. LOL!!!

The depth, the grasp, and the elevated oratory is the sure signature and sign of bubble blowers. ROTFL!

Predictable troll auditions during elections. Dull, but predictable.

Can’t stand that Sally Kohn. FOX just had to have their very own Rachel Maddow. I wonder how many viewers they have lost since January. I can’t watch it for 5 minutes. I like to hear what Krauthammer has to say on some topics and that’s about it

Right on, right on, right on. Newt speaks truth to power.

Fox has really been on his case since he made schooled lawyer Megyn Kelly on a legal question in one of the early Fox News debates. But it’s not just Fox.

Nearly the entire “conservative” press hates him more than even the larger lamestream media does, hence his comment that CNN isn’t as biased as Fox is. Hew right, as far as treatment of him and the other Romney opponents goes.

Along with Fox, National Review and the Washington Examiner have been hyping Romney and bashing Gingrich since day 1 of the campaign. All of the writers at American Spectator, with the exception of Jeffrey Lord and Aaron Goldstein, have also been attacking Newt all during the primary season. Add Michelle Malkin and Hot Air’s Tina Korbe and Allahpundit to the list. They really hate Newt. At Human Events, Ann Coulter has been trashing Newt (and Sarah Palin), and we all know who Ann’s been rooting for.

What were until recently reliable right of center news outlets have become corrupt tools of the GOP establishment.

Because there is an argument that the 14th Amendment confers citizenship and that is construed as natural born citizenship.

No matter how wrong the argument might be, it must makes its way to the SCOTUS unless Congress passes a resolution which is not going to happen soon.

So the issue is DOA for now.

However, if Sheriff Arpaio can release more damning evidence or obtain a grand jury indictment on Obama or the culprits who forged the legal documents, then attention will be drawn to citizenship and hopefully the public will be made aware of the distinction between ‘citizenship’ and ‘natural born citizenship’ (born on US soil of two US citizens).

Such a divine event could propel Newt to the top of the list along with Santorum. Romney would be damaged goods possibly contraband to the convention.

I know you’re still in.

For myself, the longer Newt stays in, the more fun I can have jabbing those who continue to recycle his premature political obituary.

And, with firm conviction that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, I always hold the hope that Romney will repeat the mistake of his father— and utter some “brainwashed” gaffe.

Realistically, the detractors may some day get their wish, and Newt might withdraw——but not today.

I don’t get Beck in my area anymore but listened to him today on satellite while travelling.

I thought I heard him say something derogatory about Rupert...and was hoping it was true!

What does he say on his show about FNC?

I understand Jim’s feelings.. he’s always despised Romney, but I don’t feel we can as a country survive 4 more years of Obama.

So I’m voting Romney. He’s not as bad.

We just need to work on House and Senate races now.
