Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting
Real Politics ^ | 4-11-12 | Conroy

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

The best candidate was Rick Perry and he got almost no support here.

Ain’t that the truth. The Perry threads got positively nasty, usually by the 5th post! Funny how most of the serious Perry supporters went to Newt afterwards, though with (IMHO) slightly less enthusiasm.

Still going to back Newt and work for him as much as I can until he says otherwise.

“it will be our job to hold their feet to the fire and make them feel the burn if they think they can forget us. Our vote is not for free, that is the message our candidate must be made to understand.”

Just a bunch of hot air.

If Romney wins, the RNC knows you voted for him and the message you sent by voting for the likes of Romney is that you will vote for whatever they put on the ticket, even an extreme left-wing liberal like Romney.

Your vote IS free and you didn’t send any message and will never send a message.

This election is for the US, not Mexico.

This election is for the US, not Mexico.

It has been the ignorant comments like this one that gave us Mitt Romney to begin with.

To clarify that: Misleading, deceitful, and destructive comments like this one have damaged every single conservative candidate we had. And that did not come from the liberal media. It just came from YOU, CodeToad.

CodeToad, shame on you for speaking in such an false and improper way.

Do damage to a candidate based on truth or disagreement? Yea, sure. Do damage to a candidate based on a personal requirement such as not liking re-marriages, or not liking a particular skill, or thinking someone doesn't "show" well or seems **tchy, or not liking one specific piece of a platform, each one of those things taking out a different conservative candidate we know here? OK. Debatable in and of itself, but that is in the realm of decency. But to damage good conservatives on lies and deceit and goofy misrepresentations such as this gross misstatement was the path to pave the way for Mitt Romney.

Shame on YOU as much as shame on the establishment Republican party and the liberal media. Shame on YOU.

I should not be stupid enough to reply to you as you are an idiot.

Rick Perry had everything... he was almost the perfect candidate.

11 years as successful governor of one of the most prosperous and forward moving states and one of the biggest.

Great on pro-life... tried to (and did) defund Planned Parenthood.

Instituted tort reform.

Had great plans to downsize government in a big way.

Has a record of goodness in his personal life that cannot be challenged.

I could go on.

Now, you’re either for Gingrich (who is far more pro-amnesty than Perry ever was (and he wasn’t) or for Santorum, I don’t know who.

I just know that you and cretins like you destroyed our best chance to beat Obama with a true good man and conservative and now you continue to write the sort of post that got him out in the first place.

The weird thing is you’re probably proud of yourself.

“It has been the ignorant comments “

“Ignorant” is a word use by people without logical rebuttals, such as you.

George Romney may have been an idiot, but he was an American. After all, not only was he once the governor of Michigan, he ran for president himself. At this point, you would have to actually prove he was a Mexican, not an American.

“he was almost the perfect candidate.”

For Mexico, but not the US. He spent more time getting beat up by the people of Texas for his pro-Mexico stance, including his Trans-Texas Corridor, than he did lobbying for the people of Texas. Sorry, but Perry’s records stands as a testament to his pro-Mexico, anti-US policies.

The voters knew this and didn’t vote him past a few primaries. Take off your Texas blinders; they make you the idiot, not me.

“And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

That’s right.

If we get Romney, we can blame Fox News.

I am very pleased with having no cable or satellite service. No television (only rarely while traveling, and I do my best to avoid Fox News).

If Newt supporters do become “unglued so easily”— what’s the purpose of your incessant provocation? I really would like to know. Thanks.
