Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

I used to watch fox all day and most of the night. Now I just don’t turn on the TV except for a few programs like Blue Bloods or Eureka etc.

I am sorry Altuna... I was not trying to lecture you... we were just discussing the election. Please do not take me wrong. I would not try to tell you not to vote how your heart tells you to vote. I just can not support this candidate and the party that has screwed over me for decades. Maybe one day we will get another candidate that we can all be proud of and excited about.

Really. It means that his son is a natural born citizen, and not a Mexican.

By the way, where HAVE you been lately?

Good to see you back at the keyboard, even briefly.

What do you think about all the wilderness cries around here?

Sometimes it’s very nice for me to be one-day-at-a-time, singularly focused on Newt, isolated from any thought of tomorrow. We’re just not yet at 1144. Thoughts?

I don’t understand why Gingrich will not go nuclear with Romney’s eligibility status (Father was Mexican)

Because nobody is buying any of that nonsense.

... and besides being born in Mexico, Romney's dad ran for President against Goldwater !

Maybe that's why the GOPe hasn't said anything about our half-Kenyan president ?

Big deal. Every person I know fits that bill but no one I know how met Alinsky or would ever befriend him. Romney is a liberal through and through and nothing you say can sweeten that pie. He being a natural born citizen is for HIS benefit not America’s. He is a detriment to the USA.

Have you ever noticed that sycophancy is one of the least admirable human traits? Playing the role that God carved out for dogs.

I’ve been watching CNN more because Fox has become a bunch of propaganda opinion stuff all the time. CNN is a better news agency right now.

You can blame Fox, National Review, Townhall.com, the Bush cabal, Drudge and a smattering of other formerly reliable conservative news types. They’ve taken a Henry Kissinger “realpolitick” approach to this campaign. They’ve decided to go with the candidate who they thought looked best on paper against Obama, and completely ignored issues of conservatism, heart, passion and integrity in pursuit of victory. Some of them naively think they can cajole Romney into being a conservative if they can get him elected. Others know Romney is the second coming of George H.W. Bush, but view him as a winner who will once again make the White House a playground for the GOP elite. Krauthamer is probably already getting ready for a stint as White House spokesperson. This is all about regaining access to power, not about saving America from Obama’s ruinous policies. A Romney Presidency, if it occurs, will be Obama-lite - not conservatism.

By the way, where HAVE you been lately?

Very kind of you to ask...Been very busy with a lot of projects, including a very interesting political writing potential and two potential book deals - not to mention my "day job."

Hope at least two of those three pan out. Also, the Rick V Newt heat has subsided obviously, and some of the RS folks get me too worked up.....had to take a blood pressure break!

Mission Accomplished! Of course they are happy. That is FrontRunner Willard, for those in Rio Linda.
