Notice how it always seems to be a surprise to the MSM when conservatives win? Conservative victories are always written about as if they are flukes, accidents or not enough voters were paying attention. Liberal victories are always written about as movements of smart people finally wising up and kicking the troglodytes to the curb in favor of "progress".
I wonder what will happened to ruling camp which could become overconfident themselves. For now, ruling party appears to be heading for easy victory, but it is not a done deal. Park Geun-hye could shoot herself in the foot with ill-advised moves.
There was nothing wrong with Grand National Party, why did they change the name? Although this is apparently common in some countries.
If Pyongyang is pissed off, and rants about it tonight on Chosun Central Broadcasting, then I’ll take it!
Good news. But a caution for Americans — politics in Korea, as with much of the rest of Asia, are not like those of the United States or the West. Regionalism, personalities, and other factors are often more influential than ideology in how people vote.
Also, there is major corruption throughout the Korean political system, on all sides. Lack of transparency has consequences, and things are swept under the rug in Asian governments based on a Confucian culture of respect for authority and “saving face” that would never be tolerated in the United States or in modern European politics.
I say that not to attack but to be realistic. I like many things about Korea, but it’s not perfect, though America is rapidly degenerating to the point that I may someday say I prefer Korea’s problems to those of America.

Grand National Party was one of the coolest names ever. I was crushed when I learned they changed it for no good reason.
Imagine if our parties changed names at the drop of a hat. What would they be called today?
Looks like the good guys were ahead in the polls so I don’t know why it’s a surprise they kept the majority.

The Dems would be the Socialist Liberation (Impy - well, somethin that starts with I) People’s United Progressive Democratic Party (SLIPUPDP)
The GOP would now be the Republican Moderate Progressive Centrist We Aren’t Rightwing Party (RMPCWARP)

I understand your point and as someone who has South Korean relatives who were dragged north by the Communists and have not been seen in decades, I don't minimize the problems faced by South Korea.
Two responses:
1. The South Korean military is among the best in the world. If all they had to worry about was North Korea, Seoul would long ago have taken care of the problem. The real fear is not what's north of the DMZ but what's north of the Yalu River... i.e., China.
2. Long term, while I am an economic conservative, national defense conservative, and social issues conservative, I consider moral values more important than economic success or what the bible calls “trusting in horses and chariots,” i.e., the power of the military. Sodom and Gomorrah were economic success stories, too... at least until God rained down hellfire on their heads:
Genesis 13:10-15: “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. I'm very much aware of the growing problems of Korea, many of which are caused by importing Western entertainment and immorality. I'm not prepared to give up on the fight here in the United States, but there comes a time that God lets people wallow in their wickedness.
Funniest graffiti I ever saw was in Quebec City... somebody spray-painted (in English) on a wall... “F**k you... IN FRENCH !” This was a few years before “Canadian Bacon” came out.
