The Fox News mole, who has now been identified as (former) OReilly Factor associate producer Joe Muto, wrote three undercover posts for Gawker before Fox News fired him yesterday. Forbes Jeff Bercovici has details on Mutos compensation from the website:
Gawkers John Cook tells me the gossip website paid Joe Muto $5,000 for his contributions as The Fox Mole. Muto, a former producer on The OReilly Factor, had intended to remain anonymous, but it took the network less than 24 hours to figure out where the leaks were coming from and have him escorted out.
Muto may not have exposed anything all that juicy about the inner workings of Fox News, but the stunt has already paid for himself and then some. Mutos posts have racked up around 1.5 million page views.
If they paid—they’re idiots and deserve to be taken to the cleaners!
He took $5,000 over his (probably) healthy salary? Wow, a nominee of Moron of the Year.
Isn’t industrial spying illegal?
For what? I’m not sure what cause of action Fox has against them.
The BS story with photos about the restrooms was silly beyond belief. The clamps that hold the stall walls and doors in place are standard clamps that you find in about every bldg that has that style of restroom. Not only that restrooms and their design are generally the responsiblity of the bldg management unless the lease arrangements make it the tennats responsiblity. I wonder what the restrooms look like on the floors occupied by Gawker?
Who wants to hire Joe Muto now?
Wasn’t there a case a few years back of a “mole” employee at a grocery store chain? It may have been at a Winn-Dixie or a Piggly-Wiggly. It was in the southeast, and, IIRC, came during a union certification struggle.
Hahahah the Internet is not only not anonymous it is far easier to find out who did what when someone uses it to post stories then if Mutto had hand written his stuff on papaer and gave it to someone at Gawker.
He betrayed his employer for $5K. NOBODY will hire him. Not even a supermarket for a shelf stocker position.
Food Lion.
If I read another account correctly, he gave Gawker filmed outtakes from Fox of a Hannity and Romney interview.
Food Lion. The employee supposedly was allowing a local news crew tape “unsanitary” practices a Food Lion — then fending off a unionization attempt. The “employee” was actually a union member who rigged a setup for the TV news crew. As I recall, Food Lion fought this and won. The union and TV station settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
That creates a problem for him but if they don’t publish it are they on the hook? If they publish it I suppose the Digital Millumum Copyright law might apply. But the media gets stolen material all the time from both companies and classified material from the government and nothing ever happens to them.
But it wasn’t material that was aired. So maybe that’s the difference.
Of course Media Matters or one of the MSM Obama shills will give the guy a job with a big salary boost and turn the guy into a hero.
