Harvard University law professor Alan Dershowitz appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball where fill-in host Michel Smerconish asked him his opinions of the arrest warrant issued and carried out for alleged Trayvon Martin murderer, George Zimmerman. Dershowitz called the affidavit justifying Zimmerman’s arrest “not only thin, it’s irresponsible.” He went on to criticize the decision to charge Zimmerman for second degree murder by special prosecutor Angela Cory as being politically motivated.

I could be wrong(and I have been in the past) but I think Dershowitz is starting to get a dose of reality and he is realizing that the Democrates of today are taking him off the cliff. I always respected him, albeit never agreed with him or his politics. He always stayed true to his core beliefs. This administration seems to be more than he can tolerate and he is becoming more vocal. Good for him! Wish he was defending Zimmerman or at least on the team to defend him.

This lawyer should be able to make a ton of money off NBC on a libel case. Think Richard Jewell. I would think he would be giddy to have this case.

God bless Dershowitz. A liberal with integrity.

LOL, don't get carried away.

Dershowitz is just pissed because they 2nd Degreed Zimmerman, instead of Manslaughtering him.

Now nothing will stick, and the case will be tossed.

(BTW, "manslaughter" includes excessive self-defense. This is what Dershowitz was referencing when he spoke of self-defense).

Isn't it amazing how the blatantly obvious is so controversial?

This is a naked attempt to placate Obama, Jackson, and Sharpton and take a campaign issue away from Obama.

If Zimmerman is drawn and quartered they will just move on to the next victim -- right up until a certain Tuesday on November.

Smerconish on MSLSD. That makes perfect sense.

The imbecile Corey actually had the audacity to state in the charges that the guy screaming for help on the 911 tape was the degenerate crook Martin, who is dead because he assaulted a guy with a gun, and that Zimmerman "confronted" Martin.

That's just breathtaking in it's dishonesty, what is she saying, the black guy was on his knees crying out for help and Zimmerman gunned him down in cold blood?

All of the evidence points to an assault by Martin on a guy he didn't know was packing heat.

Before this is over, Cory will face the consequences of her egregious actions, and the race riot and bloodshed will be on her greedy hands

Zimmerman confronted Martin and a struggle ensued. Witnesses heard people arguing and what sounded like a struggle. During this time period witnesses heard numerous called for help and some of these were recorded in 911 calls to police. Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon martin's voice.

You were doing good until you added Jaum Williams. The rats tried to drown him and he’s right back defending them.

I read the affidavit. It claims a fired casing was recovered. That disputes previous reports that the brass was still in the chamber. Sounds like a lie to me. The "affiant" also presumed to know what Zimmerman's thoughts were about Martin's intent...and stated his thoughts were "false". No bias in that report.

The defense is going to make swiss cheese of that sloppy affidavit.

no wonder that broad was smilin’ at the press conference, she is using it for her re-election...unbelievable!

This beast is on a power trip.

Scott was smart in naming her, she's expendable, a loose cannon, and a moron.

Upon taking office, Corey terminated 10 assistant state attorneys, over half of the investigators, and 48 support employees. In 2010, the Florida Times-Union reported that Corey sent 230 juvenile felony cases to adult court in 2009. This amounted to twice the number of juvenile felony cases placed in adult court in the years prior to Corey becoming State Attorney.

whoa....

It took 44 days to get to charging Z with 2nd degree murder. during that time no doubt Cory, bondi, Govenor Scott and MAYBE even the DOJ came up with the decision to charge Z....EVEN if the case is flimsy and will be thrown out at arraignment.
they may have collaborated to do this because there is no downside to charging him AT THIS POINT.

It may have been the best decision in light of the political-racial environment. To at this point say “ not enough evidence, everyone go away, we aren’t charging him” would play into the race baitors and anger.
This way, Cory says,”We charged him, we went forward with the evidence, and the case was dismissed. we tried the best we could and we moved forward with the justice system.”

This also gives at least a month for things to cool down, for a FORMAL review of the evidence with the DOJ involved and then there will be a formal report of the evidence. NOW no one would believe that justice was even served.

Yes, this shouldn’t happen this way, but its reality and in the long run may be better for Zimmerman and stronger for the “hold your ground:”law.

I believe the affidavit merely has to contain enough facts to support probable cause for him to be held on the charge. It doesn’t have to recite information helpful to the defense.

If you look at the press conference with cory she was NOT a Nifong.

She is drawing this out and calming things down.
she may very well know this will not fly with the evidence they have, and thus, while she loses the case, Zimmerman is salvaged and so is “Hold your ground.”

In my opinion, she will get the party’s support because they know this case is most likely unwinnable, but in light of the circumstances...Z is better off being charged and the case dismissed at arraignment or acquitted...

so cory “loses this case”, taking one for the team by salvaging what has become a collasol mess all around.

New respect for Dershowitz. Never thought I’d say it.

Most of the time I don't agree with Dershowitz, but I've always respected him. If I think long enough, then I may come up with an exception or two, but he's always been a man of his principles - not political expediencies, not public opinion, and not the DNC.

Yes probable cause for 2nd degree and I don't see it either in the affidavit.

No he’s not he clearly stated the affidavit is in line with the DEFENSE OF SELF DEFENSE. Nowhere he is suggesting manslaughter.
