Komen Grants Flowing To Planned Parenthood

By Lena H. Sun and Sarah Kliff April 12

Grants from the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure are flowing to Planned Parenthood, as the women’s health organizations seek to rebuild their relationship after the controversy in February over the breast cancer charity’s unsuccessful attempt to defund Planned Parenthood.

At least 17 Planned Parenthood affiliates will be funded this year, about the same number that received grants in 2011, according to a tally provided by Komen. The total amount of the grants, which are for breast-cancer screening and other breast-health services, is still being worked out. Most recipients this year also received funds last year.

An additional half-dozen applications were turned down, mostly because the local Komen affiliates lacked funds, executives said. It is not unusual for there to be more applicants than available funds, although in some locations, the controversy has hurt donations.

Planned Parenthood officials said they do not believe politics played a role in grant awards this year. In some locations, the controversy has deepened the relationship, they said.

Additional grants may continue to be awarded because not all of the 122 Komen affiliates base awards on the fiscal year that began April 1. Planned Parenthood has said its Komen grants totaled about $680,000 in 2011 and went to at least 19 of its 79 affiliates. In years past, none of the Planned Parenthood affiliates in the Washington area have sought Komen grants for a variety of reasons, including different funding priorities.

And I'm sure this October, the NFL will have their pretty pink uniforms, shoes, caps, whistles in honor of the organization that is helping to fund a filthy and bloody organization helping to slaughter 3,300 unborn and newly born American babies at a disgusting rate.

The chick-afide NFL continues to disgrace themselves.

Not a dime will come from me in any way.

There was a story from a radio station here in Indiana, the other day, that said the signups for this year’s “Race for the Cure” are way down. They tried to say it’s because people are still mad that Komen pulled the PP funding. HaHa Doesn’t it seem more likely that it’s really because they resumed it?

‘The total amount of the grants, which are for breast-cancer screening and other breast-health services’

But PP doesn't do breast cancer screening. They refer women out. Do the grants go to fund those who print the referrals? That doesn't cost that much!

Yeah the best place to go to get evaluated and treated for breast cancer is an abortion clinic.

Yes a filthy abortion clinic, those hellholes that always fail public-health cleanliness inspections.

Top care. The best treatment.

Someone needs to redesign the pink ribbon with a dead baby on it and post them everywhere.

Komen kills babies.

Planned Parenthood has zero involvement in breast cancer treatment or prevention. This is extortion by the liberal advocates of Planned Parenthood. The Komen Foundation should have told the extortionists to go to Hell. As for me, I’m not funding liberal enterprises. The liberals can do it themselves.

The Komen Center insists they are reimbursing Planned Parenthood for breast cancer doctor referals and that none of their funds are going towards abortion. Still, why give Planned Parenthood anything at all? It’s never been a major player in the fight against breast cancer.
