Remington responds to NBC hit piece
Daily Caller ^ | 12 April 2012 | unattributed

From Remington Arms to The Daily Caller

NBC continues to attack Remington and the firearms industry through sensational and factually inaccurate reporting. On April 11, 2012, Brian Williams again demonstrated NBC’s anti-gun agenda with the claim that the Model 870, Model 1100 and other Remington firearms have a design flaw. That claim is demonstrably false and Remington stands fully behind the safety and reliability of the most popular shotguns in the world.

It wasn’t enough for NBC to attack over 20 million Remington firearms; they also called the Second Amendment into question by suggesting that there is a need for increased government regulation of firearms.

Model 870 and 1100 owners know the truth – these shotguns are used extensively under the most demanding conditions. Tens of billions of rounds have been fired through these firearms, which are valued for their performance and durability by millions of hunters, shooters, law enforcement and military personnel who have relied on Remington.

As the basis for its attacks, NBC continues to rely upon paid “experts” who have been repeatedly hired by plaintiff’s attorneys to testify against Remington and at least 16 other firearms manufacturers. The facts show that the Model 870 and 1100 are two of the most reliable shotguns ever produced – only one lawsuit has been filed in the last seven years and no litigation is pending against the trigger mechanisms of these firearms.

I do not like the location of it on my 870 but it has always worked.

Full Buckeye Firearms Association article on the BS NBC "report" on Remington shotguns.

"In Wednesday's report, NBC began their lengthy report on Remington's allegedly faulty trigger system with a question: 'Is there a design defect....?' Starting a report with a question can be used to introduce something innocuous or to help "shape" a conclusion."

Brian Williams and NBC, ROTFLMAO!

Nuff said about their views on anything, especially firearms.

No problems with a Remington because we only have a couple Mossbergs and a Benelli.

Boy talk about both ends of the spectrum

I’ve never had one issue. I use the 20 gauge 870 Wingmaster pump for clay pigeons and dove hunting, and after 25 years of use it still shoots like it just came out of the box. I have another that I will simply say is “modified to my specs” for home defense, and while not used as often as my other guns, it also performs perfectly.

Don’t forget - NBC is the outfit that edited the George Zimmerman 911 tape to make him sound bad, and also sabotaged the pickup truck to make it “spontaneously” explode on command.

I’d guess I’ve fired 1000 shells through my 870. Never once had any kind of a problem with it.

Thanks for the post. It led me to the Daily Caller website and then to their “Guns and Gear” section - which is loaded with pistol and rifle reviews as well as other gun-related articles. Worth a look for those of you, like I was, who were unaware of this feature.

I’ve used a remington 870 Wingmaster for over 40 years and never, never had any problems...In fact, the action of pumping a shell into the chamber instead of an autoloader has probably saved me many boxes of shells in all my years of dove shooting...That little action has prevented me from wasting another shot on a missed bird....

I thought it was the model 700 rifle with the reliability issues that the media talked about in the past. The 870 is probably one of the best for the money made. Law enforcement and hunters have relied on it in various formats for decades.

There is only one ‘problem’ with Remington shotguns like the 1100 eries, they have steel receivers so they’re heavier than the aluminium ones. Some see that as a plus because we have so many interesting higher pressure shotgun rounds now available for ‘social work’. [BTW, I could use a few reccommendations on a semi auot 20 gague since I’m in the market for one unless I can find a recoil reduced 12 gauge semi.]

Assuredly! Brian Williams cannot proved that he has never looked at a child before. Without being able to read his mind as he looked, we must conclude he is a pedophile. Ergo, he has a 'design' defect.

I have a Remington 870 and an 1100, both 12ga. and have never had a problem with either. I also have a Remington 552 .22cal. semi-auto rifle and a model 700 30/06 bolt action rifle and I’ve never had a problem with them either.

I do have a Remington 1858 New Army .44cal. revolver that one of my relatives brought hom from the “War Against Northern Agression” that has a few problems but they only make it more “safe.”

Brian Williams and the whole NBC “news” team has been parroting the Obama line since Obama first ran in 2008. I watch the NBC news only because old Dianne on ABC is worse. I see the lies as like a lot of we who are aware, I get real news on the world and politics from other sources and the Internet. Pity the fools in America that don’t know the truth and lap up the mess the main stream media shovel out.

I have an 870 and a 30-06 model 700, both left-handed. I like Remington because they are accurate, reliable and produced in left-handed versions. I’ve had the 870 for 30 years and even though the safety is built opposite it’s right hand counterpart, it has never been a problem.

It was the 700 trigger. And it is a real issue, but most often when someone messes with the trigger.

I have seen two rifles that would fire when the safety was switched off. Both were 700’s, and both had the issue NBC and others described.

I have a Remington, Mossberg and Winchester shotgun and to be honest the best damn one of them is my 1940 something old Model 97 Winchester.

I’m a hammer man, have been since I was a kid and probably always will be. Use it almost exclusively for hunting and I’ve never, ever had a problem with it after thousands of rounds I’ve put through it almost my whole adult life.

Plus there’s the added bonus of using it as the first line in my home defense strategy - that being the incredible sound it makes chambering a round at night when you think someone might be hanging about you want to run.

No other gun quite makes the same series of clicks and clanks with that final loud “chink” at the end. I swear it would make a great doorbell ringer too, get rid of pesky salesman in a hurry I bet...
