The Unelectable Mitt Romney (November 25th, 2011)
RedState.com ^ | November 25th, 2011 | streiff

Posted on 04/14/2012 12:44:10 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

Generally speaking, I think the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson is the most profoundly stupid and uninsightful writer on any editorial page in any paper in any country. But file this one under “Blind Hog/Acorn”.

Moderator Wolf Blitzer opened Tuesday’s Republican debate by introducing himself and adding, for some reason, “Yes, that’s my real name.” A few moments later, the party’s most plausible nominee for president said the following: “I’m Mitt Romney, and yes, Wolf, that’s also my first name.”

But it’s not. Mitt is the candidate’s middle name. His first name is Willard.

And people wonder why this guy has an authenticity problem?

For a while Dem strategists have been making public pronouncements on Romney’s seeming inability to distinguish fact from fiction and his near pathological instinct to make his audience believe he is just like them. Even Jon Stewart has poked fun at Romney’s flip flops.

When the election season started I was convinced that even though I did not like Romney, he was the most electable candidate in the pack. Since then I’ve changed my views. Romney can’t win in a general election because very few people, outside the 20% who like his hair and a handful of devoted fluffers, will vote for the man.

He will lose a lot of conservatives because we fear that he will energetically return to his past persona as a liberal New England governor if he is elected. As the GOP winning the Senate in 2012 is very close to a “gimme” we have to ask: can conservatism survive a President Romney and a Senate Majority Leader McConnell?

He will lose a lot of GOP, as opposed to conservative, support because he is a supremely smarmy and untrustworthy character whose core value is defined by a strong belief that he should be president and nothing more.

While Plouffe and Carville are validating our feelings about Romney’s squishiness, the real attack, the one that will strip away the moderate center that Romney has been relying on is waiting in the wings.

Obama can’t attack Romney as a flip-flopper because many of the flips and flops Romney has held dear at one time or another are actually Obama’s own positions. The Romney response to that line of attack in a national election is easy: I held that position then but have sense developed information that makes me believe it was incorrect and I have changed it and everyone want’s a pragmatic president who can change his mind, right?

The main attack will be on Romney’s long time affiliation with the corporate chop-shop known as Bain Capital. In an environment were most people are concerned about their jobs and virtually everyone is angry at Wall Street, Romney will be the perfect poster boy for the 1% that the “99%” rails on and on about.

So abandoned by conservatives, the GOP, and moderates who is left as his logical constituency? The same tiny group of admirers that follow him today.

I don’t know if Newt Gingrich or Rick Perry can beat Obama. What I am positive of is that Mitt Romney cannot win a general election against any national Democrat figure. The only saving grace is that he probably can’t win a GOP primary either.

There has been a total black out of polls since Santorum left the race. This is being done on purpose to try and hide the fact that Gingrich picked up almost all of Santorum’s support and is surging again.

He's shown again and again that he sees the American people as little more than the welcome mat at the threshold.

I’m no fan of Gingrich but would vote for him over Romney in a heartbeat.

Actually polls are showing a 20/30/30 split.

Paul is picking up Santorum’s support moreso than Gingrich.

What’s funny about this is that the author is a mod at RedState and now is loaded for bear when it comes to anti-Romney posts. He said this yesteday to a poster lamenting that he will not be welcome at RedState around convention time:

“it is your account and you can burn it down if you please
but the nanosecond after Romney accepts the nomination, that comment will get you banned. This is not a threat, it is just the way we do business in election years.”

If Mittens gets the nomination and doesn’t win, we can break out the Scotch and cigars, and watch the end of this experiment called America. Obama will be our new founding father.

Enough already with the extreme exaggeration of Romney supporters.

Repeat after me! br>
1. Obama, though evil, and thoroughly a marxist is NOT the Anti-Christ.
2. The world will not end if Obama is re-elected.
3. The primaries are not over; there are 46% of the delegates to be won.
4. You are on a conservative web-site dedicated to the very conservative principles that Romney's record shows he does not care about, and has fought against as Governor.
5. You are posting support for a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal whom the owner of this site has made clear is NOT to be used to promote Romney, a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal, the antithesis of what this web-site is all about.

If you are a sincere conservative, the last thing you would be doing, is pimping a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal during the primaries when there is still an actual conservative competitor.

You would not even be breathing a hint of support of Romney.

What are you here for?

Pardon my confusion.

I see NO FReepers pushing Romney toward the Republican Nomination using the Primary process.

I see FReepers who think that if we end up in a Romney versus Obama General Election, any alternative to Obama is better than Obama’s reelection.

Would people here have the same vitriol against another FReeper who would Vote for Ron Paul in the General Election if he was the Republican Nominee?

As I have stated in previous Posts, I will resign my Free Republic Commission if ANY FReeper voted for Romney in the Primary Election.

Until a FReeper actually casts a Vote for Romney, all this “Romneybot”, “Romneylover”, “Romneywhore” CRAP is nothing more that a way to diminish another FReepers viewpoint instead of debating.

That being said, it seems people on each side of the issue are not changing their opponents minds, but are cementing their current positions.

Wasted keystrokes, nothing but wasted keystrokes, including mine.

If you have any sense at all you will quit fooling yourself that we are going to survive another Obama term with business as usual, status quo. Nations have been lost with that kind of short sightedness. If you will look at my simple post, you will see that I said, “If Mittens gets the nomination...,” and no I won’t stop. This isn’t going to be like living through Bill Clinton’s second term. SHOULD the time come, and it certainly looks that way, I will support Romney, as difficult as I find that. Our best bet is to keep the Senate; win the house, and get a president that will be inclined to work with Republican majorities. Until then, I’m still hoping Newt can pull a rabbit out the hat, and he’ll get my vote. If you don’t like my conservative credentials, I’ll quit responding to your threads, because all you are doing at this point is pimping Obama.

Look at the choice of candidates we had and none which was chosen by us.

This has got to stop.

I hold no brief for the pro-abortion, lying Romney. But he said “first” rather than “real.” Big deal!
