Summit of the Americas: Obama Rips Romney for Supporting Arizona’s Immigration Law

CARTAGENA, Colombia — President Obama, on a three-day trip to South America, attacked GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney’s stance on immigration reform today, saying his support for Arizona’s tough immigration law is “very troublesome.”

“We now have a Republican nominee who said that the Arizona laws are a model for the country. . . and these are laws that potentially would allow someone to be stopped and picked up and asked where their citizenship papers are based on an assumption,” Obama told Univision during an interview in Cartagena, where the president is attending the Summit of the Americas.

The three-day trip gives the president an opportunity to showcase his interest in the region and court Latino voters back home, whose support will be crucial in the upcoming election. Obama won a majority of the Latino vote in 2008 and his campaign is hoping for similar results come November.

If reelected, Obama vowed to tackle immigration reform.

“I can promise that I will try to do it in the first year of my second term. I want to try this year,” Obama told Univision.

"and these are laws that potentially would allow someone to be stopped and picked up and asked where their citizenship papers are based on an assumption,”

This is absolutley untrue. The law says that if someone has broken the law then the officer is allowed to ask immigration status.

Citizenship papers? You mean like when the officer asked me for my DL last time I got a speeding ticket?

Dang. I knew I should have sued for civil rights violations!

This is why Obama will beat Mittens like an unfaithful muslim goat.

Romney’s current rhetoric doesn’t match his past actions and he’s going to turn right around and pander to the open border crowd.

I hope everyone notices that Obama does this
when he is OUT OF THE COUNTRY.

That’s just not done, internal American politics
should stay here!

We have got to get Obama out of office.

Obama knows no shame. He again travels to a foreign country and critizes his own country. This time in the form of the state of Arizona. He is a pander of the nth degree. What a piece of work!

Obama is hoping that the pesky citizenship clause will be gone from voter law by the time November rolls around.

“We now have a Republican nominee who said that the Arizona laws are a model for the country. . . and these are laws that potentially would allow someone to be stopped and picked up and asked where their citizenship papers are based on an assumption,” Any other country and this would not be problem. I don’t have a problmem with it here, either. Sit down and stfu, 0bama.

And lying about our laws while he is on foreign soil? Isn’t that an impeachable offense?

it is absolutely false in Arizona but absolutely true in most of the countries present. Traveling through these nations it is not unusual come upon a road block and soldiers check everyone's papers.
