The federal Conservatives used to be called the Progressive Conservatives. Not anymore-they legally changed their name to the Conservatives. Its more accurate.
In the remaining eight days that the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta will exist, let us be equally accurate and call them the Progressives. Its more accurate that way, too.
Under their liberal leader, Alison Redford, the Progressives have tried something new this election. They've run against Alberta.
That has worked for political leaders before. But they've usually been federal liberals running against those scary western rednecks. It was safe for Jean Chretien and Paul Martin to run against Alberta when they knew they wouldn't get seats in the province anyway. Its novel for an Alberta politician to do the same.
For example, Redford says she is "frightened" by the Wildrose view on conscience rights. Redford says voting for the Wildrose would be a "stumble backwards" to a less-tolerant society where not everyone is "included and respected."
Redford never quite speaks clearly-she prefers a fuzzy language of legalese and buzzwords, a tic she picked up in her years working for the United Nations. But her campaign surrogates fill in the blanks. Tom Olsen, a Progressive spokesman, warns that voting for the Wildrose will lead to a province-wide "bloodletting." Seriously, he says that.
Susan Elliott, the Progressive campaign manager, suggests there is a blacklist of "targets" for the citizen-initiated referendums, part of the Wildrose plan.
"Ethnic minorities are targets. Gays and lesbians are targets." Seriously, she says that.
Elliott says that Danielle Smith, the leader of the Wildrose-a 41-year-old modern woman-represents the "party of the middle aged male.".......

The USA needs a Wildrose Alliance Party !
Who would want to be an Alberta Tory? I have more respect for the Western Separatist Party than these clowns.

The “Progressive Conservatives” of Canada who were eliminated as a national party in the 1990’s by the Reform Party and the “Progressive Conservatives” of Alberta who are about to be eliminated by the Wildrose Party are the northern version of the Republican Party in the United States.
These parties claimed to be conservative but were really liberal and moderate types pretending to be conservative.
That’s just like the Romney RINO Republican Party of today.

It is devoutly to be hope to be so. Redford was elected as head of the Conservative party, so-called, by cross over liberals, similar to what happens in USA primaries in New Hampshire.
She advocates forcing doctors to perform abortions, in violation of conscience, like Sebelius forcing health insurance to cover contraceptives also in Christian institutions, only worse.
Redford's education bill would require Christian schools and home-schoolers to promote the gay agenda, under the guise of diversity, or be shut down.
She is also running up the provincial debt.
Even if the Wildrose Party (the wild rose is the provincial flower) does not win a majority, a significant minority would block many of these things under the parliamentary system.
We in the Tea Party need to look to the North and take a lesson from all of this.
More than a decade ago, Conservatives, mainly from Alberta, split with the Tories (re: “RINOS”) and formed their own party.
It was difficult and fraught with mis-steps (their party was actually known as C-CRAP at one point!), but in the end they have Canada headed in the right direction. As opposed to our direction.
State level and parliamentary system give some advantages, but not in the US. If you could get districts within states to go conservative then you’d have something as you could roll up an area. The two parties have conspired against any third party run in most states, though.
