FR Exclusive: Convicted Sex Offender Headlines Obama Campaign Event Emceed by Manager Jim Messina

Obama reelection campaign manager Jim Messina emceed an event for Obama campaign volunteers Sunday night that was headlined by a rock singer convicted of sexual battery on a college student in 1990.

The popular rock group The Red Hot Chili Peppers played a concert at the House of Blues in Cleveland last night for about 1200 Obama for America supporters who volunteered time at Obama phone banks. From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

...On Sunday, the Cleveland Heights woman joined 1,200 Obama volunteers at the House of Blues to hear the band play a 45-minute set that included its anthem, "Under the Bridge," and "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie." The Chili Peppers had approached the campaign about helping the president's re-election bid while they were in Cleveland.

The free show came just hours after the Los Angeles band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The show mixed the band's caffeinated struts and funk-rooted songs with Obama's campaign themes. It underscored the impact of a heavy-hitting band like the Chili Peppers has on getting the political message out.

The Obama campaign had announced last week that volunteers who signed on to help with a phone bank would get free concert tickets. Most of the Obama volunteers at the show have worked with the campaign for years, staffers and volunteers said. The phone bank last week contacted about 39,000 people, campaign staffers said.

"I was going to volunteer, and they said that I could get tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I said, 'What the heck?"' Cowell said. "I've never seen the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've heard of them, but I never heard them."

She may have been alone Sunday.

The crowd stood and sang with Kiedis and bandmates Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), Chad Smith (drums) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar). The band, formed in the early 1980s, rode the alt-rock revolution to stardom. At every turn, the crowd chanted song lyrics and shrieked the members' names.

Jim Messina, the national campaign manager for Obama, introduced the band, saying the members appeared "because they care about their country."

Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis was convicted in 1990 of sexual battery and indecent exposure against a female George Mason University college student who was working backstage at the Chili Peppers' concert on April 21, 1989 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax County, Virginia.

According to the victim, Kiedis exposed his penis and tried to force her to perform oral sex on him against her will.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Kiedis' 1990 conviction.

Four years later, in 1994, the Clinton administration dropped Kiedis as a spokesman for a campaign to promote condom use produced by the Centers for Disease Control, according to the New York Times.

The Obama campaign recently became embroiled in their own 'war on women' campaign tactic when Democrat advisor and former record industry lobbyist Hilary Rosen attacked Ann Romney, saying of the wife of Republican party presidential front runner Mitt Romney, that she has "never worked a day in her life.

In 2008, the Obama campaign forced the campaign of Republican presidential opponent Sen. John McCain to cancel a fundraiser with Texan Clayton Williams over Williams' remark from 1990 comparing the weather to rape. Williams was quoted as saying, “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”

I’m sure you are aware of the many sexual assaults on women, and just how many get away with it. Charges dropped, dismissals, etc. You named a few cases, but there are millions of valid cases.

“What has the world come to when a Rock & Roll groupie says ‘no’?”

Yea, this does sound like a setup. How the hell was the singer supposed to know that this babe didn’t want it - when the previous 846 babes would kill for it.

Let’s have some respect here - if you’re not interested in getting “it” don’t hanging around them.

I don’t care if she was a hooker. No is no. If she didn’t lead him on, he can keep his (probably tiny) Johnson in his pants.

What is your source of information?

Do you have a college degree?

Are you a RINO or Donkey?

Some folks like to disrupt Freerepublic.

Was your source the friend of a friend of a friend of a friend type thing?

Inquiring minds would like to know...

I’m sure glad someone is dealing with the REAL WORLD here.

I’ve told my girls not to get near ANY of these rock star clowns if they know what’s good for them. It’s no different than telling little boys to stay clear of ‘friendly’ men that offer them a ride. Or how about walking the other way when a grizzly is on the trail in front of you? Or even worse, when you’re in Baltimore and see some ‘locals’.

There are simply people that are best stayed away from - and if you don’t, while you can technically blame them for being who they are...you can’t claim it was a surprise.

BobL, you talk like an Imam explaining why women are asking for it.

In this case we can blame the sex offender. There were witnesses.

Kiedas then pulled down his pants and thrust his ***** into the plaintiff's face, poking her in the cheek."

My question is how does one thrust 'it' into the plaintiff's face, poking her in the cheek, while she is STANDING in the hallway?

Is this guy 8 feet tall? Or was she 4 feet tall?

What a coincidence. I just came across this video of a rant that includes a reference to RHCP songs that include lyrics that are clearly hostile towards women.

Want to add one more item, for those inclined to think the accuser made the whole thing up - Kiedis admitted to the judge that he had at least exposed himself to her. He denied touching her in the face with it. Here is his own statement about it:

"Five years ago after a show in Virginia, this girl accused me of indecent exposure and sexual battery. I was guilty of the indecent exposure. And I told the judge that. I didn't do it with the intention of hurting anybody - it was just a stupid prank. And maybe I learned something from that, which is, you can't go around taking your d**k out, because some people don't like it." (link)

So, it took Mr. Kiedis 28 years to understand that you can't just go around whipping your d**k out to people - apparently not because he felt there is something wrong with it, but because for whatever reasons "some people don't like that". Yah, that's the guy who's side you should believe /s.

You'll note in the complaint that she (and the witness) were sitting, not standing.

“She was working there, not hanging around.”

If you’re working in range of a grizzly, somehow I don’t think the grizzly will know the difference.

“BobL, you talk like an Imam explaining why women are asking for it.”

I’m not exactly an apologist for the Taliban, but they have a point regarding the damage done to society by ‘liberated’ women, like Sandra Fluke.
