Trayvon Martin's killer showed signs of injury: neighbors

SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) - Neighbors of George Zimmerman say he had bandages on his nose and head the day after he shot dead Trayvon Martin, supporting statements by the neighborhood watch volunteer that he was beaten in a confrontation with the black Florida teenager.

The extent of Zimmerman's injuries could be crucial to his legal defense under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law, which allows the use of deadly force when someone has the reasonable belief he could face death or great bodily harm.

Police said Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the racially charged case, was bleeding from the nose and the back of his head and was treated by medics before being taken to Sanford police station after the February 26 shooting.

But public doubts were later raised by the release of a grainy surveillance video from the police station in which no injuries were readily visible.

Zimmerman later sought medical treatment for injuries including a broken nose, his former lawyers have said.

Jorge Rodriguez, Zimmerman's next-door neighbor, told Reuters that when he saw Zimmerman the day after the incident, "he had two big, butterfly bandages on the back of his head, and another big bandage...on the bridge of his nose." He was talking to a police detective in his driveway.

"killer" implies evil....Z protected himself....we could go on all day about if it was wise for him to be out there with a loaded gun following an unknown hooded man....

whatever happened, Z wasn't a killer...he was a shooter...protecting himself, period...

There is no way an HONEST jury will find Zimmerman guilty.............................. I agree, and I wonder how the OJ jury would decide this case?? Duuuuh!

My point is still valid because how many times have we read news reports where the accused is cuaght on video or has confessed to their actions and the media refers to them as “alleged (insert name of offense here)”?

The "(name of offense here)" is Second Degree Murder. Zimmeman's an alleged murderer, and that's what you'll read in the news report. But he's not an alleged killer. He's admitted killing Martin.

Alleged murderer. Killer, no 'alleged' needed in the media.

No need to talk to neighbors - the cops and medics already have records of the injuries.

That's what I'm thinking. Plenty of hospital folks can testify. This is a useless story.

This case is not about “Stand Your Ground.” It is about self-defense, kill or be killed, pure and simple. If George Zimmerman had not been armed, he would have died from the brain injury caused by having his head bashed on the ground.

If you want to see how easy you can be taken out by a sucker punch, watch this video:

The kid arrested looks about the same age as Trayvon Martin too.

What I noticed more is that they didn't use Zimmerman's name at all in the headline, they used Martin's.

Me too. The title's biased and I'm not surprised.

The article does not make any use of the word “alleged” wit respect to Zimmerman and the charge that he faces. Over the years, I have read news stories in which a confessed trangressor is still referred to as “alleged” with respect to their action.

I am not trying to split hairs, but rather note the bias in the headline, let alone any bias in the content of the article.

I don’t think there’s a law against lying to the neighbors.

While the Zimmerman/Martin ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by a gang of feral blacks in Oklahoma just a few weeks ago?

The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.

Can you just imagine the pain, the humiliation, the horror that dear old lady experienced being gang raped by that pack of feral animals?

(the autopsy states she was raped. Don’t think all of these animals didn’t all participate)

And can you imagine the pain, the horror of that dear old husband having to witness this?

There’s a lot more involved here than a home invasion and robbery.

WHERE ARE THE CHARGES OF A RACIAL HATE CRIME??

90 year old husband’s jaw broken and shot in face with a BB gun numerous times?

85 wife year old semi blind wife RAPED and BEATEN to death??

Why does it take a foreign press to enlighten America as to this henious crime?

WHERE IS THE NATIONAL OUTRAGE?

Have they caught the rest of the gang of feral blacks who raped, tortured and murdered this elderly woman? Are they even looking? Not a word about it in the media.

"So much for a presumption of innocence."

Presumption of innocence is a legal term and applies in criminal court proceedings ... the judge, jury and court officers. The media and general public have no obligation to recognize someone as innocent until proven guilty. You've got to know the media isn't going to be fair to the story.

Tragic story but Oklahoma is a comfortably red state. Florida is where the action is.

Now that prosecutors have brought charges against George Zimmerman, you probably think that a jury is going to hear the facts and decide the case. Think again. Under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, if George Zimmerman can convince a judge that he acted justifiably, he is entitled to immunity from prosecution. That means no jury; no conviction; no jail. Think of it as a big “Get Out of Jail Free” card. It is worth repeating: Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law does not just provide an affirmative defense; it provides immunity. The distinction is extremely significant

"self-defense while white-Hispanic."

Then that makes Obama a white-Black.

I have read that if Zimmerman fulfills the requirements of “Stand Your Ground,” the trial will be thrown out and over. I wonder about civil action. There was a civil trial for OJ after the criminal trial found him not guilty.

She’s supposedly a Republican, and the jails are overflowing with the people she has prosecuted.

Florida’s self-defense law would give him complete protection from civil damages.
