Or, do you believe such behavior should be excused simply on the basis of age?

That easy for me to answer. I don't. But arrest and criminal charges should not be imposed on a 6 year old. There are a lot of things that can be done between your two choices of arrest versus excuse it and do nothing.

Or do you think little kids having trantrums should always be arrested?

I think her behavior went way beyond a “tantrum.” But, I am not certain that she should be arrested and criminally charged. However, she needed to be removed from the principal’s office so that she would no longer destroy property and endanger others and potentially herself. The time out or quiet rooms have been phased out in Georgia schools, so there are two choices: her parents’ custody or jail.

You obviously have never read lord of the flies. Children are nothing particularly special if they have been raised without rules and consequences. The truth is that it is not the tantrum that is the problem It is that we do not allow school staff to discipline children for fear of lawsuits. The parents of this child should be ashamed of themselves

If you'd ask me this question 15 or 20 years ago, I'd probably have said no. Today however, my answer is YES! This country is in a moral morass with deep decay in societal/public behavior. To turn this around will require severe "tough love" approaches. Perhaps the parents of these children will awaken to the severity of the problem after having to pick their child up from police custody and go through the court system.

BTW, I am a School Psychologist. In the past 15 years I've witnessed situations that would make the average person in this country drop their jaw in amazement. Behaviors are getting worse, and not just from teens and young adults. There comes a time when extreme measures must be implemented. Now is the time, before it becomes too late.
