A Lincoln Park mom who continued to receive food stamps after winning a $1 million lottery prize has been charged with two felony counts of welfare fraud after failing to report her winnings to the state.

Attorney General Bill Schuette said 25-year-old Amanda Clayton is facing two counts of Welfare Fraud – Failure to Inform, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The charges were filed Tuesday in Lincoln Park’s 25th District Court.

Schuette said investigation revealed that Clayton received public assistance from August 2010 through March 2012, but was employed from June 2011 through October 2011. It’s alleged that income from Clayton’s employment during that time period was never reported to Department of Human Services officials, as required by state law.

Additionally, on September 12, 2011, Clayton won a $1 million jackpot in the “Make Me Rich!” game show sponsored by the Michigan Lottery. It is alleged Clayton also failed to report the lottery winnings as income.

Schuette said as a result, from August 2011 through March 2012, Clayton allegedly collected approximately $5,475 in food and medical assistance benefits for which she would otherwise have been ineligible.

The mother of two was removed from the state’s food assistance program after her story became widely publicized in March. She had been receiving about $200 a month in food

It is strange to me that she is immediately described as a “Lincoln Park mom.”

If she were a man with kids, would he be described as a “Lincoln Park dad?”

I think they’d just say, “A Lincoln Park man.”

“I feel that it’s okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay,” she added. “I have two houses.”

TWO houses? Why isn't she renting one of those out, in order to provide herself with income?

If anyone is wealthy enough to afford lotto tickets, they are too wealthy for taxpayer assistance.

The way I see it, taxpayers purchased that ticket, so the entire 1,000,000 should belong to the taxpayers.

I wonder if she has zero money management knowledge?

I wonder if she has boyfriend(s) who have taken advantage of her?

I wonder lots of things, but, I would guess that she doesn’t understand how to rent out property, make it a business property, all of that, in order to generate income from investing her money.

I have heard that some lottery winners have ended up broke years later.

I have heard the same of some professional athletes who earned millions, and who theoretically will not have money problems for the rest of their lives, if they had managed their money wisely.

She’s a Lincoln Park mom. Nowadays, I’m afraid to ask where her husband is.

Guilty. Because she hit the lottery and stayed on welfare..Guilty for execution. On second thought..just guilty for execution.

I have heard that some lottery winners have ended up broke years later....I can tell you horror stories about this from people I know or have been associated with. For instance the couple in Franklin, Pa who won a couple of million got a Corvette from a dealer (who had read about it in the paper), Got four speeding tickets trying to go 325 miles to Harrisburg area and years later ended up going to court where the judge took the money and put them on an allowance. The guy in Erie, Pa who won a few million and within fifteen months, couldn’t pay his taxes from gambling sports online. Also, I knew of a nice lady who lost her husband in VN, who accepted welfare, help from us veterans who knew her husband and the local American Legion who won a lot of money (not millions) and went to the welfare office to pay it back. They didn’t want it.

Anyone winning a lottery that has been funded by "the government" should lose 90 percent of their winnings automatically.

Wonder when Attorney General Bill Schuette is going to go after the Too Big To Prosecute banks over mortgage & mortgage document fraud?

Maybe Amanda Clayton should have become a Big Bank - then she would have gotten a small fine, and NO felony charges...

As I said, indicative of the sheeple mindset.

The Majority of citizens, not just those natural born, have no clue about entitlements and view them as “found” money.

Extremely concerning.

At least in Michigan, the call it “BRIDGE”. Not just EBT as here in Missouri.

(Electronic BENEFITS transfer, What is up with that? Benefit? REALLY?)

Bill Schuette is the Attorney General up there? I went to high school, played football and baseball, and graduated with Bill Schuette at Dow High in 1972.

And he's now the Attorney General? Man, that's a scary thought ...

I remember an article in Forbes that stated that if the Feds could cut 1 out of every 10 dollars it spent, we could pay off the national debt in 5 years.

An article on CNN stated that 20+% of our tax dollars were wasted and lost to fraud and abuse.

Since 10% is less than 20%, I think I see what the primary reason for the national debt is.

WASTE!!!

The question is why the idiots in Washington don't address it?

They could pay off the debt without cuts to vital programs and everyone on both sides of the spectrum would get what they wanted. Are they just afraid to do something about people like this or just too lazy?
