Sometimes, you actually get what you ask for.
After nine unsuccessful attempts to win a seat on the Richmond City Council, Corky Boozé prevailed in 2010 - winning election and a long- sought place in public office. After that much effort, it's only natural to ask what people think of your performance in office. Politicians rely on public polls to measure their popularity and take the public's pulse on controversial political issues all the time.
But the method Boozé chose to test the waters is one for the books.
He asked his council colleague - and former campaign supporter Tom Butt - to craft a survey and post the results on Butt's e-forum. The forum is an intermittent online platform where Butt can interact with residents on issues facing the council and the city.
"He'd been bugging me to do a survey on my e-forum as a way to find out what people thought of his job performance on the council," Butt said in a phone interview Monday.
The results were posted on Saturday, and they couldn't have been what Boozé had hoped for. The survey ranked 1 as the lowest score and 5 as the highest.
More than 100 people responded, and the overwhelming and oft-repeated sentiment was that Boozé is a grand-stander who talks too much and accomplishes too little.
"I voted for him, but he has been a HUGE disappointment and I will never vote for him again. ...What we need our local politicians to do is take care of the public good instead of strutting proudly about how they LOVE to kowtow to power." The respondent gave Boozé a score of 1 or 2.
Others weren't as kind.

Richmond is Contra Costa County's equivalent of Oakland, but without the charm. And Richmond doesn't have a football team, either.
Isn’t Richmond a ‘bedroom community’ for Berkeley?
So this guy is Corky Booze, and his supporter is Tom Butt.
I think I see the problem....
So this is the Booze Butt poll?
Sounds right for San Fran.
The mural of the Booze Butt story would anti frieze.
