A recent decision by the Marine Corps to reinstate "Crusaders" as the name of its Fighter Attack Squadron 122 — replacing "Werewolves" — and adopting the red cross of the medieval Knights Templar was blasted as unconstitutional and willfully ignorant by a civil rights group Wednesday.
"I don’t know that the Marine Corps could do anything more to fuel the cause of jihad," said Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocates church-state separation. VMFA-122 based out of Beaufort, S.C., used the Crusaders symbol from 1958 up to 2008, when Lt. Col. William Lieblein pointed out that imagery invoking the Christian conquest and colonization of Muslims during the Middle Ages was counterproductive to U.S. soldiers based across the Arab and Islamic world.

The Crusade was a counter-offensive against Muslim invasions which had pushed thru the middle east and finally set off the Christians when they invaded Gaul! The Christians, much like American conservatives, kept giving and giving and giving until they decided the time had come to set things RIGHT!

Charles Martel (23 August 686 – 22 October 741), also known as Charles the Hammer, was a Frankish military and political leader, Charlie was the original “Hammer Time”.
He is remembered for winning the Battle of Tours in 732, in which he defeated an invading Moorish army and halted northward Islamic expansion in western Europe. He was also the father of Pepin the Short and grandfather of Charlemagne.
VMF-122 was originally named the Werewolves, switching to the “Crusaders” upon transition to the F-8 (which was named “Crusader”).
They reverted back to “Werewolves” several years back because of cultural sensitivities with them deploying to the Middle East. However they managed to slyly retain a lot of their “Crusaders” symbolism. Look closely at the eyes of the Werewolf that adorns the tails of their F/A-18s, for instance.
The Crusaders didn’t finish the job ...
