Dog-Eating and Obama’s Identity
PJ Media ^ | 4/19/2012 | David "Spengler" Goldman

What a careful reader will take away from Barack Obama’s memoir Dreams of My Father is not only that the president used to eat dog meat, but more importantly, that he identifies with dog-eaters. He wants us to understand that he is one of them. Obama’s most severe critics on the right think of Obama as a socialist, for example, Dinesh d’Souza, or Stanley Kurtz in his exhaustively-researched book Radical-in-Chief. Obama used to attend the annual “Socialist Scholars Conference” in New York, which was a hard-core affair; I went to a couple of them, and they weren’t for the curious. But there is something far more visceral, more existential to the president’s dislike of the United States, and that arises from his early residence in the Third World, and his identification with the people of the Third World whose lives are disrupted by the creative destruction that America has unleashed.

Obama is the son of a Kenyan Muslim father, the stepson of an Indonesian Muslim, and the child, most of all, of an American anthropologist who devoted her career to protecting Indonesian traditional life against the depredations of the global marketplace. Her doctoral dissertation, “Peasant blacksmithing in Indonesia: surviving against all odds,” celebrated traditional cultures hanging on desperately in the face of the global economic marketplace.

Ms. Dunham was not only a Communist fellow-traveler, but the sort of 1960s woman who (as we used to say) “put her body on the line,” first by marrying two Third World men, and then by spending her career in the Third World. It is no surprise that Obama considers the Third World morally superior to the United States.

There are Chinese in every part of Indonesia. As in Malaysia and elsewhere, the Chinese have every legal prerogative to continue eating pork, dog, monkey and anything else that ever moved.

They do so.

Moslems might not eat those things but in Indonesia there are Chinese origin people who fake it so they can benefit from being considered part of the ruling class of Moslems.

I have no doubt a guy named S'oe'taro would happily snag some dog meat.

Well, x, that is the most obtuse response I’ve ever seen from you.

As a Viet Nam Veteran I have been in many parts of Indonesia and could address the dog and cat menu.

Also, having been around forty years ago I can tell you the speed limit wasn’t 55 it was 70 and at that speed it would have been cruel and unusual punishment to have a dog strapped in a carrier outside of the auto, even back then.

Well, address it if you want to.

If I was born by then I was a child in those days. If my dad told me to put the dog in a carrier on the roof (and he might have if we had a dog) I would have done it. I wonder how many people who are horrified, horrified by this now would have done the same if they'd been around back then.

Romney was brutally cruel to that dog, if your dad had told you to put his cage up on the roof of the car in Massachusetts, then he would have been breaking the law.

It was a 12 hour trip on the freeway, and part way along, the treatment made the dog sick and diarrhea was flowing over the car, that forced Romney to stop and hose down the car, the cage, the dog, and then get back on the freeway with the dog wet this time.

The media has two different reports of what happened to the dog, but they both reveal that Mitt got. rid of the dog after this abusive trip.
One version is that the dog ran off after they arrived, this is the supposed account by two of the sons.
The other is the official Romney response that they sent him to live with Ann’s sister in California, either way, this incident was the end of Seamus for Mitt.

“As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ‘’Dad!’’ he yelled. ‘’Gross!’’ A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.
Mr. Romney responded to his dog’s defecation by “coolly” stopping at a gas station where he “borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway” with Seamus strapped back on the roof.”

Ansel, I am a sheepdog as well, and as such, I will pick and choose my battles. It makes no sense to get into the middle of the dog issue between Obama and Romney. They are both losers. I know people who have eaten dog but they don’t play the issue up by telling others or by putting it in a book. Also, those of us who were adults forty years ago know what Romney did to his dog WAS cruel and unusual.

We have the greatest country known to have ever existed about to be flushed down the toilet by both of these individuals. That’s where I choose my battles, not with their petty campaign babble.

It's not at all clear that classmate Chip was saying that fellow liberal SAD supported the Communist party line. What he did mean is anybody's guess, and some guesses will be better than "Spengler's."

It is clear that SAD was closely involved with communism long before she left WA state.

Barack Obama: Red Diaper Baby

...Obama's future mother, Stanley Ann Dunham could attend Mercer Island high school.

What was special about Mercer Island High School? The Chicago Tribune explains:

"In 1955, the chairman of the Mercer Island school board, John Stenhouse, testified before the House Un-American Activities Subcommittee that he had been a member of the Communist Party."

After intense debate, Stenhouse decided not to resign from the school board according to an April 11, 1955 account in Time Magazine. While others demanded Stenhouse's resignation, the Dunhams gravitated towards his school.

As with Obama, his mother's generation of these pseudo-intellectual leftist high schoolers found a way to think of themselves as superior. How? By surrounding themselves with co-thinkers. The Seattle Times continues:

One respite was found in a wing of Mercer Island High called "anarchy alley." Jim Wichterman taught a wide-open philosophy course that included Karl Marx. Next door, Val Foubert taught a rigorous dose of literature, including Margaret Mead's writings on homosexuality.

Those classes prompted what Wichterman, now 80 and retired in Ellensburg, called "mothers' marches" of parents outraged at the curriculum.

Dunham thrived in the environment, Wichterman said.

The Chicago Tribune mentions a description of the Dunham's chosen church as "The Little Red Church on the Hill". According to its own website, East Shore Unitarian Church got that name because of, "Well-publicized debates and forums on such controversial subjects as the admission of ‘Red China' to the United Nations...." The fact that John Stenhouse once served as church president might also have contributed to the "red" label.

Jim Treacher broke the the sad news yesterday that Mr. Wonderful eats dogs.

With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

UPDATE: (By Andrea Ryan) Thank goodness our president didn’t roll over before the Saudi King. Or

Lanny Davis has a really impassioned attack online against Romney for animal cruelty.

But it's quite transparent.

He rages against Romney because Mitt's a Republican (more or less), and you rage against him because he's a Mormon.

Gail Collins, a New York Times columnist has mentioned Shamus over 50 times in print. Is she another dog lover?

I'm trying to figure out just what the practice was at the time and how people would have reacted at the time and whether this would have been regarded as so cruel or criminal at the time that people wouldn't do it.

Maybe 1983 was a little late, and maybe you guys are right, but my own childhood memory of the 1970s was that people weren't as panicky about things like dog carriers on roofs or helmets on cyclists.

PS, the Romney's didn't give Shamus away to a relative until some years after this incident. If the dog had problems, we don't know that they were related to the vacation trip, and we don't know how old Shamus was when the problems started.

You are a liar, I am against Romney because he is an anti-conservative nut case lefty, sleazy and dishonest, a compulsive liar, and for many other reasons.

No one has ever seen a dog in a cage on the roof of a car on the freeway before Romney, so quit trying to pretend that people use to do that, quit lying about that.

You seem to be lying about what happened to the abused dog as well, the latest reporting is that two of the sons have said that the dog ran away when they arrived in Canada, the dishonest, pro-abortion, Planned Parenthood supporting Ann Romney claims that they gave him away and shipped him off.

What is your source for your claim that they kept him for years afterward?

Sometimes you might want to just step back for a minute and ask how other people who don't know you personally are going to read what you say.

Based on what you actually post here, his being a Mormon is one of those "many other reasons."

You wouldn't throw in buzzwords like "Mormon bishop," "cult," "not a Christian," and "Joseph Smith" so often if it were just about politics.

My own personal favorite was the post about how Romney wants to be or expects to be a god someday. That's pretty far removed from politics and current issues.

What is your source for your claim that they kept him for years afterward?

This article, via Shamus's Wikipedia page (see next paragraph). Yes, that's right, you guys have made it possible for poor Shamus to become that famous. This may give a whole new meaning to the phrase "Yellow Dog Democrat."

Mitt Romney's sister Jane provided this photo as evidence that Seamus was no ordinary dog. She says he was such a social dog that he often left Mitt Romney's Belmont home to visit his "dog friends" around town. "He kept ending up at the pound," she says. "They were worried about him getting hit crossing the street." So a few years after Seamus's ride to Canada, Mitt sent Seamus to live for a time with Jane and her family in California. "We had more space, so he could roam more freely," she says. Introducing Shamus Romney: "Mr. Personality

You are a prolific liar for Romney, a Romney troll.

Being a powerful leader in an anti-Christian cult is one of the countless negatives about the Bishop and powerful cult leader, (and fanatic beliver, who expects to be a GOD himself) , but as a Romney troll you have read years worth of our political exposure of Governor Romney, from Jim Robinson to me to vast numbers of freeepers exposing Romney’s anti-conservatism and liberalism, you have been exposed to all of the videos and sourced stories, unfortunantly you ignore those posts but there is no doubt that you have been exposed to the truth about Romney, a whole lot of it from directly to you, yet as a liar and a troll, here you are pretending that this is a fresh new meeting.

As a Romney troll, you treat each of your posts as a chance to tell a lie, to ignore all truth in regards to Romney, and to try and sell whatever you think that you can get away with, this thread is a good example of that, you are slip sliding all over the place.

The Romney’s claim one story about how they got rid of their do, there is another.
From my previous post, *””You seem to be lying about what happened to the abused dog as well, the latest reporting is that two of the sons have said that the dog ran away when they arrived in Canada, the dishonest, pro-abortion, Planned Parenthood supporting Ann Romney claims that they gave him away and shipped him off.””*
