‘Fed up’ French Muslims mobilize to unseat Sarkozy

France’s Muslim community is mobilizing voters to reject President Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday’s election to punish the conservative leader for his anti-immigrant and anti-Islam rhetoric.

“[French] Muslims can’t stand it anymore. They are fed up with these debates about national identity, halal meat, the veil or fundamentalism all over the place,” said Francoise Lorcerie, a sociologist with the Institute of Studies on the Arab and Muslim World near Marseille.

That is not what all polling tells us. Many of MLP’s supporters are disgruntled former Communists and other assorted leftists

French voters defied expectations and handed a surprisingly strong third-place showing to far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, who has run on an anti-immigrant platform aimed largely at Muslims. That could boost her influence on the French political scene, hand her party seats in parliament and affect relations with minorities.

Hollande so far has refused to answer questions about campaign promises he made to various groups. Will he fess up to:
• giving immigrants (non citizens the right to vote)
• allowing municipal facilities like swimming pools and tennis courts to conform to sharia law, separating females from males, having separate hours, etc.
• Will Hollande uphold his promise to the Eco-freaks to eliminate all nuclear power in France, in the next ten years, starting immediately. France gets 82% of its energy, and is now an exporter of energy.

The muslim minority in France is part of Hollande’s base. Muslims are a bigger percentage of the French electorate than African-Americans are in the US. Like here, they vote predominately for the Leftist/Socialist political party.

Clearly there is a big reaction against the terrorist attacks in France, and the flood of muslim refugees into Europe. It is a big political phenomena now, but will will have to see if things heat up or cool down before the 2017 elections in France. The terrorists are unlikely to restrain themselves, it just remains to be seen if the left can manipulate conditions enough to mollify public outrage.

I am with you that Sarkozy is likely to benefit politically from having the right enemies going into the election.
