WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will use a tour of three election battleground states next week to push Congress to prevent the doubling of interest rates on federal student loans -- an effort aimed at re-energizing his support among younger voters.
Obama will speak at universities in North Carolina, Colorado and Iowa, the White House said on Friday. All three states are considered critical to his re-election chances, and the youth vote is one of his key constituencies.
The two-day trip is part of a campaign by the Obama administration to get Congress to extend low interest rates on college loans to more than 7.4 million students.

If Obama care Care goes down, the student loan authority goes away, along with much of Obama’s ability play student loan Santa Claus
He has but one song in his repetoire-how to give away other people’s money. He just sings it different ways.
President Whore, leading a nation of whores!
Once again, the commie ‘RATS using OUR MONEY to get themselves reelected. It’s sick. This whole country is sick.
Only true idiots who somehow believe pure hot air go for this guys’ empty promises at this point. The last home mortgage “help-out” program? Nonexistent. There’s nobody there. No office has been established for it. I keep hearing libs say they vote for this one or that one because “they stand for” the little guy, and these fools just eat up empty promises.
But I DO believe people are starting to catch on. Starting to. I believe the Republicans need to mount a massive disinformation campaign now; not necessarily attacking 0bama, but putting out subtle messages of “where is it?”.
Guess we needed a dog eating story to tip the scales. Sheesh. Whatever, I’ll take it. Nobody can state what it will take to get through to idiots, I don’t care how smart the experts are.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
They are well aware of the stat about student loans outdistancing credit card debt and they don't like it.
Many of them were improvident in accumulating debt, but there is no benefit in railing against them now. They are looking for a way out, and the republicans need to have an answer to this initiative.
It's always been that way, 'Rat or Pub. The party inpower has only one goal, to stay in power. We just have a President who really knows how to play the system yet keep public opinion suppressed thanks to a complicit media and weak Congressional opposition.
If Bush did half the crap Obama has done the last 3 years do you think the media would have supported him?
The repubs never fight back, or even know how to fight back.
I agree with all you said.
He’s going after the dopes, like the guy at the original OWS thing by Wall Street...”Throw me a bone, pay my loan...”
I think a lot are coming out of their coma.
The “Obama ate dog...” story was pretty funny! Kind of tops old Mitt and the dog on the top of the car.
Of course, Obama was a “child”! Just like Tray-von! Still, I bet the Peta dopes didn’t like that one!
You are right on. I predicted a year and a half ago that when push came to shove you’d hear Obama start pushing student loan forgiveness as a key campaign theme.
Though at this point I suspect that most of these yutes have been dumbed-down to the point of thinking it all comes from Obama’s stash, and if they aren’t getting any it’s Obama’s fault.
The paranoid in me is wondering thus:
Is he going to push not just the continuance of the subsides, but worse, forgiveness of said loans if said borrower joins, oh say, a newly created “civilian defense force” like Obambi was ranting about on the campaign trail?
Something does need to be done about the education bubble. I am 36, and will pay off my loans soon, but for many kids getting out of college with $200K of debt that isn’t possible.
The interest rates have gone up since he took over the student loan sector.
Gimme more money!
So tired of this “student loan” crap. No wonder tuition rises at a double-digit rate. Too many students are spending other people’s money.
What’s the sure way to raise the price of anything? SUBSIDIZE IT.
