In testimony too graphic for any parent to hear, Norwegian far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik shocked an Oslo courtroom as he calmly described hunting down teenagers on an island summer camp.
As his words rolled out, survivors and victims' relatives of the July 22 massacre hugged and sobbed, trying to comfort each other. That testimony was also broadcast to 17 other courtrooms in Norway where others affected by the attacks were gathered, but was not carried live on Norwegian television.
The 33-year-old Norwegian left out no detail from his rampage, explaining how he shot panicked youths at point-blank range. 69, mostly teenagers, were killed on Utoya island and others only survived by diving into chilly waters to escape.
Breivik said he did not anticipate his victims' reactions.
"Some of them are completely paralyzed. They cannot run. They stand totally still. This is something they never show on TV," Breivik said. "It was very strange."
He said he pointed his gun at Berntsen's head and pulled the trigger. He shot Boesei as she tried run away. Then as they lay on the ground, he shot them both twice in the head.
The first shot was "extremely difficult," he declared, saying he then entered a "fight-and-flight modus" that made it easier to continue the killing spree.
Breivik couldn't remember large chunks of the approximately 90 minutes he spent on the island before surrendering to police commandos. Still, he recalled some of the shootings in great detail, including inside a cafe where he mowed down young victims as they pleaded for their lives.
Some teenagers were frozen in panic, unable to move even when Breivik ran out of ammunition. He changed clips. They didn't move. He shot them in the head.
Others pretended to be dead. He said he shot them, too.

When the Left kills, they kill in the millions ... and no one seems to care.
A right-winger who kills at point blank range is seen as a monster. The world uses that outrage to dismiss anything which is non-Left. You see, we need to support the Leftists so that tragedies do not occur. We seek a calm world of simple statistics.

So he must have been corresponding with Sarah Palin and working on a gig at the next Tea Party rally.
Why is it we never hear about "far left extremists?" (Rhetorical question).
Seems to be a pretty clear indication as to the futility of gun control.
Norway is one of those passive-aggressive gun rights countries. They have some excessively unnecessary rules such as being subject to a random search given 48 hours notice, but they tolerate it otherwise.
There’s also apparently very little public support of concealed carry, and garbage like what’s going on here with Zimmerman is used as anti-gun propaganda.

Once you start down the road of compliance you will end up waiting while he reloads for your bullet to the back of the head.
The Virginia Tech student was using a .22 IIRC - not a very dangerous round (all things considered) for a body shot - but so many students waited for the bullet to the back of the head - one of the few places a .22 is sure to kill you.
I really don't understand this term. I define 'right' as conservative, capitalist. I define 'left' as big government socialist.
Hitler, Stalin are far left. Skinheads who support Hitler's goals are far left, but called far right.
Long drop, short rope. Historically appropriate justice. I don’t care what his politics are, there is no possible justification for his murders.
Wow, I bet the Norwegians are sad they don’t have a death penalty, or even a life sentence.

I disagree. I think he was humane. When you look at what the Left has done in the past 100 years then you’ll see real barbarism.
Billions enslaved. Hundreds of millions murdered.
And Breivik was brilliant (and sane) in his strategy not to try to assassinate the current crop of leftist leaders but to assassinate the next generation of leftist elites.
It is cold, it is unthinkable to contemplate as a mother of three, but in fifteen years what Breivik did may allow Norwegians to cast off the shackles of leftism when there are not enough elite leftist youth moving into leadership.
Again, I do not approve of what Brievik did but if the tables were turned and some leftist murdered 100 kids at, say, a Tea Party summer camp I do not doubt that the left would be openly celebrating. Bill Maher would call the killer ‘brave’, Obama would call the killer the son he never had, and any number of academics would call the killer a hero.
We’re better than that, of course, but let’s not lost track of the fact that the left would do this same thing a million times over to our kids if they could. History shows that’s how they roll.
I suppose this is what happens when a maniac sees his nation going down the toilet of socialist mediocrity. He targets and wipes out an island full of teenagers who are attending a camp to be nurtured and groomed to be the political elite of the future with the goal of furthering the socialist/communist agenda.
Has this insane killer ever stated precisely what his specific goal was? Was it entirely political?
Does he consider himself a martyr?

Standing there like a sheep at the slaughterhouse while he reloads? Some maniac tried this years ago at an Oregon high school and was tackled by an Eagle Scout, IIRC.
It’s sad those kids were slaughtered like rabbits.
I have seen rabbits freeze like that in the field.
This may sound harsh, but their liberal upbringing may have contributed to it.
Imagine if one of those kids were raised like Audie Murphy.

That really shocked me as well. A few tried to attack him but he was gunned down. This maniac was loaded up on steroids and very well prepared though.
One group with lots of teens just lay down unable to move and he shot them all in the head. You never know how you will respond to this kind of extreme situations.

Even unarmed - one who is familiar with arms and familiar with small arms fire is in a better mental situation to deal with an armed person than one who think that a gun is a kill machine and getting hit = being dead.
Diving into freezing waters sounds like one heck of a good idea when the alternative is huddling together waiting for a bullet.
Their ancestors, the Vikings, would take a man like that, cut a hole in his abdomen, withdraw a section of small intestine, and nail it to a tree...then stick spears in his butt to force him to walk around and around the tree as they ran out of his body and wound around the trunk, until he had no more guts to spool out. After he died, his body would be hung in the tree for the ravens, birds sacred to Odin.
It’s where the saying “coming to the end of your rope” comes from.
