Did it look like this?
Of course, journ-0-lists refer to anything more dangerous than a pop-gun an "assault rifle" so you never know...

It wouldn’t be out in the trash if it hadn’t already been used. And it was probably on top to keep the lighter items from blowing away.

Prolly one of those use-once rocket launch tubes you see at gun shows. Pretty scary looking, pistol grip, sights, warning labels.
Also harmless. Evacuate the neighborhood!

Probably an M72 LAW, just the shell, used as a training device in the military, and harmless.

...military guided missile deviceIf one of these I don't think is a guided missile launcher.

It was very dirty and had all kinds of cobwebs inside. I cleaned it out and even found a bunch of black widow spider eggs inside the tube.
A bunch of black widow spider eggs? Clearly a weapon of mass destruction! The whole neighborhood for 8 to 10 block radius should be locked down and everyone stripped searched!

Lyrics:
Here comes the helicopter — second time today
Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away
How many kids they’ve murdered only God can say
If I had a rocket launcher...I’d make somebody pay
I don’t believe in guarded borders and I don’t believe in hate
I don’t believe in generals or their stinking torture states
And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate
“If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate
On the Rio Lacantun, one hundred thousand wait
To fall down from starvation — or some less humane fate
Cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate
If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate
I want to raise every voice — at least I’ve got to try
Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes.
Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry
If I had a rocket launcher...Some son of a bitch would die “
Excellent!

Does Bruce Cockburn live in that neighborhood?
That was a good song and a funny one, too, considering the singer, because he finally realized there are some things that really merit simply blowing the crap out of some malefactor.

I don’t know who lives in the neighborhood, but if they are armed like that I bet they have a dammed good neighborhood watch!

I was pretty sure it was real when the garbage people wouldnt pick it up and said they werent messing with it, said neighbor James Earl. Nah, it was just that all recyclables have to be in the correct bin.
