CARSON CITY — The Clark County School District will receive a $16 million federal grant to help improve students’ reading and writing skills.

The money will be used over two years to hire additional teachers, said Colin Usher, project manager for the grant at the state Department of Education. It will also be used for training and purchases of such things as iPads and books, he said.

The new African-American Superintendent Dwight Jones has completely changed the entire evaluation system for teachers. While the Clark County Education System found 100 million dollars last year that they didn't know they have, this year they claim to be 68 million dollars in the red. So they are talking about laying off teachers due to their budgetary misspending here. However at the same time they are hiring new teachers. With the new evaluation system Principals have been told to change 2s from prior years to 1s so that they can get rid of higher cost veteran teachers and bring in lower cost new teachers. This is evidence of conspiracy and collusion and undue influence. In the process they wish to write up veteran teachers as incompetent, teachers they evaluated to be competent just last year.

Is this what Obama and Democrats mean by standing for education?

This is happening on Obama's watch on the state level here.

Those in the upper beuracracy of the education system, Republicans and Democrats have taken part in this criminal conspiracy here.

You teach children to read and write by making them read and write. I remember writing a paragraph USING THE PALMER METHOD every day in second grade. It meant using a scratchy pen dipped into an inkwell at the upper right corner of my desk.

If you were left handed you were so scre***.

We read short stories aloud every day. It was practice, practice, practice.

Only one of my 45, 47 & 49 year old children can read script with ease.

Throw the damn computers away in the lower grades.

I'm left handed. Writing with a nib pen was a real challenge. My teacher was a bit old fashioned — she thought ballpoint pens might be a passing fad. We had to learn to write with real ink, just in case.

I’m left handed. I had a royal blue ink stain on the outside of my left hand for years.

The scams just go on and on. This is Harry Reid’s state. This is PAYOFF for his vulgar attacks on everything conservative.

How exactly does ozippy have the authority to direct money to his friends? GOP in congress makes me sick to my stomach. AND they are the same GOPe who fight “We the People” at every turn.

Time to clean house even MORE. Lugar and Hatch must go.

If I ran a school system....I’d have a iron-clad rule...no computers in the school until after the 8th grade. I would not want any homework done on a computer throughout the entire twelve years.

Why throw extra money at it? You're already paying the "teachers" to teach.

You make some excellent points in your comments.

How much does it cost for parents to read an hour with their children every evening?

Sheesh. How many of us learned to read and write (and do arithmetic also) with nothing more than a pencil, paper, and a hand-me-down text book.

And compared to today's “professional writers” it doesn't look like i-pads and computers have done a better job.

I remember writing a paragraph USING THE PALMER METHOD every day in second grade.

Still used it when I was in second grade in the early 60's

It meant using a scratchy pen dipped into an inkwell at the upper right corner of my desk.

Ok, now you're showing your age... ;)
