Grassley Wants To Know If White House Aides Were Connected To Prostitution Scandal April 21, 2012

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is asking the Secret Service whether members of the White House advance team are connected to the Colombian prostitution scandal, considering their “close working relationship” with federal agents.

Grassley, R-Iowa, sent the letter Friday to agency Director Mark Sullivan and acting Inspector General Charles Edwards. He also asked in the letter if the Secret Service is looking at whether the White House communications office also could be involved.

The scandal involving at least one Secret Service agent allegedly bringing a prostitute to his hotel room in Cartagena, Columbia, was made public April 13.

Grassley is concerned about whether White House officials were in the same hotel and if the prostitutes could have had access to their rooms.

The agents were there in advance of President Obama participating in an international trade summit. Twelve Secret Service agents have been implicated in the incident. Six have been ousted, including one who was allowed to retire. The rest are on paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated and have had their security clearance suspended.

In addition, the Pentagon says the incident also involved 11 military members -- six Army, two Navy explosive ordinance disposal technicians, two Marine dog handlers and an Air Force airman.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday the administration has no reason to think staffers were involved and implied he would not be looking into the matter.

At least no one is talking about obama waiting to have more “flexibilty” with the russians anymore. So obama and his propagandists are happy to discuss things that are “just about sex.”

Chuck, don’t over-reach. When your enemy is in the process of self-destructing, step back and watch. I’m hoping one or more of the disgruntled agents decides to go deep-throat (no pun intended).

The possibility that members of the White House advance team may have been involved with Colombian prostitutes would seem to assume that male prostitutes were engaged, a possibility that doesn’t seem to have included in the press reports I’ve read or heard.

Perhaps there should be a cabinet level department; Secretary of Tarts, for example...

He should stick with fast and furious and pursue this under the radar. But the leadership has already shown they don’t care about Holders’ perjury or gun running.

They did this with clinton, too. A hundred serious crimes, and they go after the blue dress. This is the “progressive” politicans’ protection racket.

Who really cares? The government is spending us into oblivion, while the greenies are intentionally driving up the price of energy to force us to conserve (we use more than our fair share you know).

I mean this prostitution thing isn’t the slightest bit surprising. What do people do when they deploy to various third world countries where sex is cheap? Um. Many partake. It’s not right, not by a long shot, but it’s not a national crisis. Disciplinary processes exist within all agencies to handle these sorts of transgressions.

We have far, far more important issues to worry about, like whether or not we’ll be hustled off to die when we’re old and sick, or whether or not we’ll be able to afford enough gas to get to work tomorrow.

Who really cares?

I'd guess that you do, or you would've ignored the thread.

this is over-fishing. the scandal will work out by itself; we needn’t give the obamites any ammunition for a couter-strike by being stupid.

Like any competent lawyer, he would not have asked the question if he did not already know the answer.

I don't care about the scandal. I do care about those who would foolishly try to gain a political advantage out of it. What do people think happens when military and security personnel deploy around the world? They cheat on their spouses, girlfriends, and boyfriends. That's no surprise. Not everyone does it, of course, but I'd be surprised if a certain percentage weren't screwing around. I'm pretty sure most Americans could care less (unless, of course, it affects their marriages or relationships, but that's a different story).

Any politician who wants to turn this into a holy crusade against fornicators and adulterers is only giving the left ammunition. The left loves to paint Republicans as a bunch of backward prudes who want to use government to stop people from having sex. They also like to use these "sex scandals" to draw attention from the larger issues.

Baloney. This is a potential national security issue. If the 'best of the best' are engaging in sordid behavior, then it most certainly is the public's business.

I'm guessing this is not the only time.

Ken, this sort of stuff goes on all the time under the radar. Again, I’m not justifying it, and I agree with you that there’s a potential security issue. I don’t think we know if the prostitutes had access to the secure areas where the president was staying. If so, then we do have a security breach that there are no doubt procedures within the agency and executive branch to handle.

As for the men being the best of the best, they’re still men, and I dare say the vast majority aren’t saints. I wish we had people of higher moral character in such jobs, but I doubt marital fidelity is a required to be an agent.

Lack of morality causes problems throughout society, both to individuals and the organizations where they work, but our culture celebrates it. How in the world would you even be able to staff an agency with saints in an era when screwing everything you can is generally praised?

Again, I’m not saying disciplinary action shouldn’t be taken if they violated security. That would be a failure to do their job.

The military people probably included White House IT/telecommunications techs.

When I was in service, I saw a plainclothes guy from the White House Tech Control giving orders to our Colonel in Command of the Comm. Squadron just before Jimmy Carter stopped in at our Base. I found out a little later on he was just an E-6 Tech Sergeant. I guess, E-6 or O-6 what's the difference when it concerns the White House.
