Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

The most bitter pill of all is that the supposedly “pro-life” community is sticking the final dagger into the heart of America.

I will never trust them again.

Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts, but Massachusetts is not anything like the demographics of the rest of the nation.

Don't bring the vileness of mitt's words here! Got it?

Only evil repeats evil/deception! You couldn't expect anything else but EVIL from a PRO HOMO baby killing KNOWN LIAR candidate.

Only someone living in a hole under ground, mental institution or in jail or he married you in his same sex marriage ceremonies. NO one else is that clueless. MA is AMERICA - and not some 3rd rate/state. He just does what EVIL does - brings anything down to it's evil level.

So what everybody needs to do is make sure that Romney is not on the ballot against Obama.

As somebody said, we can’t leave ourselves having to choose between rat poison and drain cleaner to drink. We HAVE to keep rat poison off the ballot so we can have a choice we can actually live with. It’s a matter of do or die - literally - at this point.

We need to man the phone banks. And we need to tell the National Right to Life to go to Hell, which is apparently their choice anyway.

one is an American

What's 'American' about this baby killing candidate? What's American about $$millions spent on attack ads on Patriots who stand up for our constitution; namely, Mitt and Sarah? What's American about his socialistic big gov't Romneycare? What's American about his anti-gun stance?

I don't care what he says he is - his (R) is a lie - he's is as liberal and a destroyer of our nation as is Obama. He has NO demeaning qualities, he is evil to the core.

Americans don't vote for evil unless they hate America.

“The most bitter pill of all is that the supposedly ‘pro-life” community is sticking the final dagger into the heart of America.”

Actually even they are lining up in support of Romney.

“Days after Mr. Santorum dropped out, three conservative groups endorsed Mr. Romney - National Right to Life, the National Organization for Marriage and Susan B. Anthony List.”

My first priority is getting rid of Obama. That's all I have to say.

I can't be your first priority because there is more of a guarantee you will have obama with mitt as a nominee - he has NOTHING to fight him on, NOTHING! No one is asking you to say anything - JUST THINK! And look at the chart here to see the difference between the two - there isn't.

ONLY Newt can beat him - that's the cold hard fact. That's why his fight is so great. He has the Patriot spirit!

Obama is the enemy!

My enemies are not defined by party. Romney and Obama are equally unacceptable to me.

Cheney has said we should get behind Romney. I believe it won’t be long before Rush and Palin say it too.

Who cares? Maybe you make your decisions based on what you are told to do. I do not. I don't care who tells me to support Romney. I won't vote for the etch-a-sketch man.

Newt blew it with Bain Capital attack

No. The GOP sycophants blew it attacking Newt for his questions about Bain's actual record, which should have been (should be?) thoroughly aired before the convention! Private equity has little to do with risk or investment or forwarding the economy (all the things that are admirable about the free market) and much to do with tax breaks, gov't subsidies, crony capitalism and profits exclusively for the partners/hand-picked investors.

“I see wisdom in empowering conservatives....regardless of party affiliation.”

Yeah sure, the democrat party is just another sports team...not the threat to the US that some of us think. Maybe you can get out the cheerleaders and hotdogs next election day.

Are you really that ignorant of how our government works? Or, are you just being dogmatic?

Sure, I will bet...you got all the mouth and all the ego as evidenced by your ridiculous profile page showing what kind of person you really are. I think you poop mush...comes from your head.

BTW, you are the one supporting the jackass party...you want obama to win rather than Romney, guess that makes you the donkey!

I am not a cartoon character dj...

Don’t let certain folks get to you. I voted for Newt and am Conservative as they get but I will vote for Romney over Obama if that is the choice. You have to think things through logically and some here dont do that. I dont think Romney hates the US like Obama(Obama’s dad was a huge commie that hated whites and the US and so is Obama), and the supreme court is at stake. No one is worse that Obama no one. Period.

Idiocy (and a complete lack of core principles) is supporting a liberal Republican just because he has an R behind his name.

No wonder you are a fan of Mittens.

The Republican establishment has already ceded the election to Obama. Wake up.

Thank you, I don’t get discouraged...although I do pity those who are so misguided. You are absolutely correct in that Romney is no way equivocal in Obama’s hatred for America and the racist views he holds. Romney is actually a decent man...by all accounts I have personally heard from those who actually know him. He is a firm believer in free markets and is pro life now. The same sort of things that some use to belittle and disparage Romney could have been said about Reagan, Palin, Newt etc.

I would also prefer Newt, and actually was a supporter of Cain, but in no way will I help the democrat party hold onto power. That is why I post...

Yes, you really do not understand how our government works. The party in power decides what is voted on...decides Supreme Court nominees and other Federal judges. They decide what regulations pass, what bureaucracies grow, etc. You really need to think some before you react.

The absolutely worse thing we can do is enable the democrat party to consolidate their power in this next election. If you cannot understand that, then please try to trust those who do.
