Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

Can’t help but think of demeaning when the name Romney is present alongside of America. The blood of Patriots were shed to keep America great to be used for his pro homo/baby killing/socialistic healthcare evil playground. Can smarty pants understand that?

He is a firm believer in free markets . . .

. . . oddly, he never gave any evidence of that in MA;

and is pro life now.

As he promised gay marriage to the gays while at the same time in public he swore to defend traditional marriage; you know now where his heart was on that one!

"I will be one of those engaged, and shooting at the real enemy. Once things start to really heat up, it will be difficult for you, and others like you, to continue to shoot at our flank from within"

So let me get this right... you attacking me for supporting a real Conservative is NOT "shooting at our flank" but me pointing out the FACT that anyone surrendering before the war is over is shilling for the enemy is??? How's that work? Do you look to Jane Fonda for guidance?

As I said... Romney has less than half the delegates needed to secure the nomination of the Republican party and quite likely will NOT secure enough delegates before the convention. Without his minions in the msm using his millions to trash his opposition in little one minute soundbites on TV and radio romney will have to convince the delegates that he is not just another obomba. He can't do it which is why the coward won't do any more debates. When Newt can set the record straight and be heard he cannot lose to romney hence the war is not over. I have been in enough battles to know that it ain't over until it's over. You're choosing sides as we speak. You've drank the koolaide and believe obombney is everything but what his record says he is. You claim that romney is not just another obomba yet you have NO EVIDENCE to support your claims. You say obomba is the real enemy and that romney is not. Well sorry bub. To me all socialists are the enemy and I don't give a rat's rear what party they are in. I will not cast my ballot for another loser. Not going to happen. You blame Newt and Santorum for not stepping up and doing the right thing. You blame them for not consolidating the conservative movement yet Santorum isn't a conservative either. If you knew what a conservative is you wouldn't be calling romney one and you certainly wouldn't be doing anything to support him.

Oh well... The hearts of the people will get what they desire. They cried out to God for a King and got Saul. Look at what that did for them. You're calling out for a moderate and will get???

While I am a firm believer that this country is screwed I am hopeful that like the Ninevites, maybe the citizens of the United States will repent and change course before obomba/romney gets another four years to finish destroying our nation.

Do as you will. Jim Robinson asked his members to stop shilling for romney. You think that bushing Newt under a bus before the convention is NOT shilling for romney. I see it differently. I'm just going to agree to disagree with you.

Then you have not read about what he did in Massachusetts...it wasn’t all bad. Just like Reagan in California though...he had to compromise and accept some things so that he could get other things.

He is not my first pick, but I will definitely support him over a democrat. We simply cannot afford democrats being in power...

I am in complete disagreement with so called “gay marriage”, but I also know that there has never been any politician that I voted for that was 100% in tune with what I believe. And, the way our governmental system works we MUST not help democrats remain in power, it is far far too risky.

“Not a site for whoring out your conservative principles for a gun grabbing, pro-abortion socialist just because he has an R behind his name.”

Yup, it’s now “conservative principles” to be fragging the 2012 imminent GOP nominee and thereby giving aid and comfort to the gun grabbing, tax-raising, Saudi-king-bowing, dog-eating, debt-busting, healthcare-system-destroying, energy pipeline-killing, pro-abortion socialist dictator-wannabe named Obama.

And that’s just fine because President O doesnt have an R behind his name, so its cool to let that particular marxist who lost millions of jobs on his watch and blew through $6 TRILLION dollars have 4 more years to destroy what’s left of the once-great USA. Gotcha.

Thanks for the explanation I was looking for...I just don’t get what is being gained by flogging any candidate who is running against Obama, other than making Dem lurkers smile.

“A vote for Goode IS A VOTE for EVIL”

Totally unfair. A vote for Goode is a vote for a third party candidate who will get 1%. It’s a vote to let brainwashed liberals decide who gets to be President.

“A snowball in Death Valley sitting out in the noonday sun on the 4th of July has a better chance than Virgil Goode.”

LOL, is the snowball running as a libertarian?

“So what everybody needs to do is make sure that Romney is not on the ballot against Obama.”

if we are going to do this time machine thing and undo Romney’s 2012 nomination, why not just go back to 2008 and stop Obama’s Presidency?

“My first priority is getting rid of Obama. That’s all I have to say.”

“I can’t be your first priority because there is more of a guarantee you will have obama with mitt as a nominee - he has NOTHING to fight him on, NOTHING!”

Obama blew $6 trillion dollars in deficit spending, lost millions of jobs on his watch and has had the worst economic record in our lifetimes. He imposed socialized medicine, czars, and far-left judges on us.

Romney supports the Ryan roadmap to fix the deficit and control spending in the budget, opposes Obama’s jobkilling tax hikes and proposes to lower rates, and will sign Obamacare repeal that a GOP Congress send him, and reverse Obama’s energy jobkilling decisions (like Keystone) as well.

It’ll be enough to run on.

“ONLY Newt can beat him” ... to even get there he needs to win primaries, which he hasnt. I expect my vote for Newt in the TX primary to be a protest vote.

Romney hasn't sewn up the nomination yet. And lots of folks are working hard to ensure he doesn't. Include me in that number.

And I will never ever ever vote for Romney.

We’re you talking about Romney or Obama here? The description fits both.

Nope, all he needs to do is keep Romney from getting enough delegates for a coronation. And for the GOP to quit trying dirty tricks like Florida, where half the delegates shouldn't count.

I expect the Florida delegates to melt away when challanged.

I pray for an open convention and a bloody and ugly floor fight.

And whose fault is that? Voters aren't IN IT TO WIN - to win it FOR AMERICA! They are too busy nursing their fears! God said 'FEAR NOT' 365 times - you think many are listening to HIM or the media/GOP? God doesn't honor the faithless, the disobedient!

I get the honor of voting for Newt tomorrow FOR AMERICA! I will NEVER succumb to fear/evil.

Cant see the difference? Get your eyes checked.

“I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” — defending his tax plan to Joe the Plumber, who argued that Obama’s policy hurts small-business owners like himself, Toledo, Ohio, Oct. 12, 2008

“The Cambridge police acted stupidly.” —commenting on a white police officer’s arrest of black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. at his home in Cambridge, Mass., at a news conference, July 22, 2009. Obama later had to convene a “Beer Summit” at the White House to help tamp down the controversy stirred by his remark

“It’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” –speaking at a San Francisco fundraiser about his troubles winning over some small-town, working-class voters, April 11, 2008

Saw this apropos comment:

“So here we are, almost four years in to the current administrations tenure, of which the first two years were controlled exclusively by the administration, and here’s where we stand: $5 trillion dollars further in debt from when Obama took office, 8% plus unempoyment, 42 million plus on welfare, no democratic budget offered much less passed in three years, and totally ignorant of basic economics (google - Laffer Curve) based on the rallying cry of taxing the wealthy more as some sort of magical elixir all in the name of “fairness”.”

.... there is something worthy of our fear: FOUR MORE YEARS OF OBAMA.

but I have “hope” we will change that!
