Government Motors sending jobs overseas. Like the Chinese can’t afford to pay a premium on a luxury car? See, e.g., Mercedes, Audi, Porsche.

I was never a HUGE supporter of the notion that you just HAVE to “buy American, no matter what,” no matter if the only options are made by UAW goons, no matter how poor the repair record is, etc. But it was worth a smidge extra to me if a product was American and otherwise a good deal.

Now, this?

The one big reason we were supposed to buy GM is out the window TOO, in addition to all the BAD stuff (benefits to union goons, etc.) that’s sticking around.

I’ll stick with my 2000 Honda Accord, assembled in Marysville Ohio with non-union-goon labor.

Don’t want to hear another word out of King BOZer0’s flapping purple lips about American jobs being outsourced overseas? Now our very taxpayer-owned Govt. Motors is sending ‘our’ jobs to the CHicoms. Are we chumps or what?

I hope the leather for the seats won’t be cured in urine.

Does the U.N. have a car designing division? No matter where the cars are from anymore they all seem to have common design features. Been that way for number of years, but more, and more now we see what appears to be collusion, or some sort of ISO design feature.

IOW they all look alike so much it’s hard to tell anymore one from another.

I thought that between the UAW and Obama they had controlling interest on the board?

The union had to be okay with this for it to happen, the administration couldn’t do this alone, or the other bond holders, only a quorum could make this happen.

I wonder how well that will sit with the rank and file?

If they are sold in China I have few problems. Buick is a big seller in China but as far as I know the ones built there are not sold here. That includes most, but not all parts.

Similar to buying those foreign make cars built here by mostly non union folk in TN, AL, IL and other states.

If the Caddys are built there and sold here...how’s that hope and change and bailout thing working out for yunz union folk?

Every time I see a Cadillac, I think of:

My grandfather, who drove nothing but massive Cadillac or Buick boats as long as I knew him. He could glide them effortlessly up and down his driveway, with high concrete walls, built for the Model T.

Always knew when he was coming because all of those cars had squealing water pumps that you could hear from three to four blocks away.

Seems to me this is an act of desperation on the part of GM.

They gotta know the American buyer is going to consider the manufacture of the car in China as a negative.

For such an announcement to come out today means this has been in the works for a long time. It would be interesting to know the history of this decision relative to the timing of Obama’s GM “bailout”.

It would be designed in Detroit, and the parts made and assembled in China.

No way would Cadillac put its emblem on a Chinese designed car, never. One of the few things it has left is name recognition, and without that they might as well be Pontiac or Oldsmobile, i,e gone.

They used my money to create jobs in China and Mexico ( GM built a new engine plant in Mexico).

They also used my money to buy votes for odinga.

And to buy hookers in Columbia.

I know a bunch of people, including two relatives, who truly believe GM paid back the loans. When you point out they borrowed money to pack back the money, you get a blank stare. I don’t think they understand what a “refinance” is.

GM sold 1 percent of the joint venture to Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp. in 2009 as part of its bankruptcy, giving the Chinese company a 51 percent stake. The 2009 sale reportedly cost $85 million.

I don't remember hearing any news of this.....
