WASHINGTON - Before joining Republican Mitt Romney's presidential campaign last week as a spokesman, Richard Grenell was a prolific - and inflammatory - voice on Twitter, posting biting commentary on subjects ranging from Newt Gingrich's weight to Michelle Obama exercising in the White House.

No more.

Since he joined Romney's campaign as foreign affairs spokesman, many of Grenell's most provocative musings on Twitter have been deleted in a cleanup that is the latest reminder of how social media has become a sideshow - and at times more - in the 2012 campaign.

Ok, political numerologists: what will Mitten's net gain/loss be from appointing this person ?

How many percentage points of true conservatives will he lose ?

How many percentage points of homosexual votes will he add ?

Welcome to the world of Republican establishment...

....

....

"winning". /sarc

Sounds to me like a Lindsey Lohan level airhead.

Not good. Very, very, very, very not good.

IMHO, the Republican party will be replaced by a more conservative party.

Various conservative parties already exist, but they are tiny relative to the Republican party.

However, most Republican party leadership is no longer really conservative at all, simply wishy-washy, but power-craving, political types. The party is sliding away from the principles of the “flyover” states, and, IMHO, is even starting to be not conservative enough for many conservatives near and in the big cities. It’s just not my father’s Republican party any more.

Independents and Democrats will mostly not be convinced to join a “centrist” Republican party if they push to gather members from that trough. Why would they ? Because one party appoints MORE homosexuals than the other ? The differences would be literally in name only.

If Mittens is elected, the Republican party will rue that day, IMHO, since he will bring all sorts of shame and failure on the brand. If Mittens is elected, and when the cr@p meets the fan economically (Europe I doubt will avoid collapse for four more years), there is no way Mittens would avoid all sorts of money-printing cronyism to try to fix the economy and bail out Europe and the world. I guess I could be wrong in theory about this prediction, but I just don’t see Mittens leaving big business and big financial firms to fend for themselves and slashing enough government (perhaps 90% department eliminatation) to actually get out of the way of small business.

If Mittens is not elected, he STILL will bring all sorts of shame and failure on the brand by being a LOSER - to the most Communist White House occupant in history. An occupant who actually admits that the “Frank” in his disgusting book IS Frank Marshall Davis, noted communist.

A Republican who can’t muster enough support to win an election against this occupant - after four years of slow-motion economic collapse and all it’s accompanying financial pain - would be utterly embarrassing, IMHO.

IMHO, as the Republicans replaced the Whigs, the Republicans will BE replaced themselves, with a real conservative alternative that is built from the ground up by real people who advocate getting America back to things like the rule of law, etc., i.e., back to basics.

What a stupid move by Mittens - just after major victories in campaign messaging with the Hilary Rosen and dog-eating incidents. Now this stupid, needless, careless hiring of such an obviously flawed wackjob? BAD sign indeed of things to come.

You present a very reasonable scenario. There really is no need for two leftwing parties, and power will fill a vacuum. There is no strong party to represent conservatives and small ‘L’ libertarians. One will emerge.

I don’t think it is careless at all. It is a very pointed ‘screw you’ to real conservatives. See my tagline. It is the very essence of arrogance.
