Blacks in South L.A. Have A Bleaker Jobs Picture Than In 1992 Median income in South Los Angeles is lower now than during the 1992 riots, and the unemployment rate has reached even more dire levels.
By Ricardo Lopez April 28, 2012 Two decades after the L.A. riots brought pledges of help to rebuild South Los Angeles, the area is worse off in many ways than it was in 1992.
Median income, when adjusted for inflation, is lower. Many middle-class blacks have fled in search of safer neighborhoods and better schools.
And the unemployment rate, which was bad at the time of the riots, has reached even more dire levels. In two areas of South Los Angeles Florence Graham and Westmont unemployment is almost 24%. Back in 1992, it was 21% in Florence Graham and 17% in Westmont.
Last summer, thousands of South Los Angeles residents showed up to a job fair that brought out almost 200 employers at Crenshaw Christian Center on Vermont Avenue. The event, organized by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles), was seen by some as grandstanding.
"People were really skeptical," said Kokayi Kwa Jitahidi, a community organizer with the nonprofit Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy. "People thought, 'Another job fair?'"
There have been training and other job programs both privately and government-funded in the roughly 51-square-mile area in the last two decades. A post-riots report said the area needed an investment of about $6 billion and the creation of 75,000 to 94,000 jobs.

Folks, if youre blessed enough to have income, and youre using FR but not donating to keep it on line, youre riding in the cart while others are pulling it.
Take one minute out of your busy FReeping and set up a monthly donation. Even $5 helps, you probably wont even notice it and if you do, youll feel good about it.
$5 a month for FR? A bargain at twice the price!!!
When are we all going to stop making believe that blacks are some bizarre amoeba-like species that reacts only to external stimuli? They make their own decisions, including where they are, what they do, and how they want to live.
The blacks in LA are worse off now than they were in 1992 because they have chosen to behave in a way that makes them worse off. It they really wanted to be better off they would be. It’s time to adopt a hands-off policy towards them — including no longer rewarding their wrongheaded decisions with welfare payments.
Hardworking, decent blacks (and whites) don’t need it. Slothful blacks (and whites) don’t deserve it.
Alas, Fred had the Big’un and Lamont bought a bigger truck and now runs a fleet of trash trucks from his office near his home in Malibu
The usual bleeding heart BS! And it's the same ol', same ol' fraud.
It doesn't matter if adjusted for inflation the "median income" is lower, if there are four times as many parasites collecting checks from twice as many taxpayer-funded sources as in 1992.
Guess what? Working and retired Americans haven't gotten real adjustments in years and against their will, are forced to continue supporting the parasites.
20 years from now at the 40th aniversary of the Rodney King riots, they will be asking for $12 billion because the area has not recovered yet from the riots. And Katrina victims will be getting their third new FEMA trailers.
A very interesting post.
Very honest.
It makes you wonder about why the problems of poverty never seem to get solved.
Is the poverty in the inner city a result of a poverty of material goods, money, etc., or is it due to a poverty of values? We have spent trillions of dollars in the War on Poverty since the ‘60s, but poverty seems to have won that war.
Why are liberals never held to account for the failure of their social policies? Consider the goals of the war on poverty. Have the goals been met? Are there more or few people in poverty than 40 years ago? More or fewer children growing up in broken homes, to never married parents, or in some other ad hoc family arrangement? Are the poor better off now than 40 years ago? Are more of the poor and their children escaping a life of poverty than was the case 40 years ago?
It would be good to make an honest assessment of what LBJ and the liberals of the day hoped would be accomplished by the war on poverty, and whether those goals were ever achieved.
Thinking of investing in South LA?
Before making your presentation to investors, consider:
Highest rates of crime in the region, including theft and violence
Presence of loudmouthed advocates of local civil unrest, with a history of buildings being burnt twice in 27 years
Workforce badly undereducated, with dropout rate in local high schools 50% or more
Highest sales taxes in region and in the state
Oversight by corrupt agencies of LA city government
Demands for increasing public service by hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens
Yes, all these combined make South LA the “money magnet” it is now!
“Undocumented” illegals in LA = Less Jobs For Blacks In LA.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out.
and like all RATS, they will try and make their new home just like their old one...
Jobs? Who would hire these savages? What can they do? I suppose some drug dealers could sell AFLAC, right?
“Demands for increasing public service by hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens”
It looks like the Cloward-Piven plan is really “working” there in South LA.
Does not seem like Maxine is taking very good care of her people.I wonder if a change in Congressional Representative could or would help???
I saw an interview with Maxine after Katrina happened. In the interview she said it was terrible that the Hurricane didn't happen a few days later so the poor people in N.O. would have gotten their first of the Month Government Checks.

Urban blacks have been written off/sold out by the white liberal elites; they are importing millions of Hispanics to replace them while pushing the black birthrate lower (through welfare limits, attempts to subsidize their contraception & abortions, etc.). While many blacks basked in the election of Obama, their situation has never been more precarious; they are shrinking as a portion of the population while they are being displaced by Hispanics in every segment of our society (economically and politically).
No help at all.
Our president went to a black racist hate cult calling itself a “church” for many years.
The Attorney General of the US dismissed a voter intimidation crime case against the New Black Panthers that occurred in the 2008 election. He said it “disparaged his people”.
Imagine if AG Robert Kennedy dismissed the 1994 Mississippi KKK case and said that!
Flash back to 1942. The Czech resistance managed to kill Reinhard Heydrich in Prague. He was a top Nazi that was orchestrating the oppression of Jews.
Hitler and the rest of his henchmen stayed in power for three more years, and the holocaust continued.
Voting out Waters will solve nothing, because all of the rest of the negro nazi party in America will stay in power thanks to the propaganda media that protects “Holder’s people” who are thugs like the New Black Panthers and poor little “innocent” Trayvon Martin.
Have any of the New Black Panthers been arrested for putting a $10,000 bounty on George Zimmerman?
Thank you. It is something that great black leaders — like Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams, and Thomas Sowell — have been trying to explain to people for years. Tragically, it does not seem to resonate with the black masses. Once did. No longer does.
