Maine's GOP governor calls state workers 'corrupt'
By CLARKE CANFIELD | Associated Press – Fri, Apr 27, 2012

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine's blunt-speaking governor is again creating a ruckus with his offhanded remarks — this time by calling state government middle managers "about as corrupt as can be."

At a town hall-style meeting in Newport on Thursday night, Republican Gov. Paul LePage was asked why there are so many fees associated with getting a cosmetologist license.

In response, the governor said state government is too big and too costly and that the state workforce is part of the problem. LePage told the crowd that he has control over appointed state workers, but has little authority over middle managers and other unionized state employees.

"The problem is, middle management of the state is about as corrupt as can be," LePage said in remarks first reported by MaineToday Media.

With the remark buzzing around the State House on Friday, LePage sent an email to more than 11,000 state workers to clarify his remarks, praising the majority of state workers but saying that some union bosses and state workers are intent on maintaining the status quo.

I have no doubt that his original remarks are spot on.

Why do all GOPers have to apologize or "clarify" every time they speak the truth about government being too big and corrupted? It's like they are afraid they will lose their jobs because some government union thugs are gonna get mad at them.

Hey, GOP, grow a freakin' pair!

You’ll be surprised at how many Freepers I’ve encountered in the forums who are union members & whenever a union thread is posted, my eyes look up whenever they make a lame excuse why they cannot leave the union..

The truth is ALL States are just as corrupt or WORSE...
I suspect most are much worse than Maine..

Its not just the federal givernment but State and Local givernment as well..
What “IS” unusual is ...... “SOMEBODY ACTUALLY SAID IT”..

America just may have the givernment it deserves..
The people themselves may be and probably are as corrupt as the givernment is..

New Sodom is exposed, Obama may be the Punishment for it all..
He is the “salt”..

Note: having trouble bracing myself for his second term..

Having lived in many states, and now Maine for 10 years, we do seem to have way too many civil employees pushing pencils instead of brooms.

Prior to Gov Lepage we had 8 years of Dems and Angus King (dem in sheeps clothing) who managed to burough in every lazy political lacky into state positions with full benifits.

Many of these mid-level hacks appear to be extremely unqualified to do much more than make ‘fact-finding’ junkets and attend diversity seminars in very warm climates.

Many department’s orginization charts look like upside down triangles. Two managers for each front line worker.

Ther were other people who ran against Mr Lepage who had better skill sets for political management; But we needed a vocal ‘bomb-thrower’ to get the people to start conversations about changing things here in Maine.

Mainers, check my tag line;

I understand why they can’t leave the unions. That doesn’t mean they support the corruptions. They also don’t support their hard earned cash being given to left leaning organizations. It’s the Union System we’re fighting - NOT individual workers. Isn’t that obvious?
