Democrats looking to replace retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe (R) in Maine have a delicate decision to make.
If they back independent former Gov. Angus King, who stands the best chance at winning, they risk the appearance of having abandoned their own party's candidates.
But if they support one of the four Democrats competing in the primary, they risk siphoning votes away from King and handing the seat back to Republicans.
Looming over the race is the lingering question about which party King will caucus with if elected to the Senate. King has steadfastly refused to say with which party hell cast his lot, a silence that some of his opponents claim deprives voters of the information they need to cast an informed ballot.

For Republicans, the situation created by Snowes retirement is equally precarious. Senate Republicans didnt expect to have to defend this seat one that could determine the balance of power in a closely divided Senate come November.
And with King in the race, the GOPs options are limited.

I am fine with their dilemma
This is an awkward situation for both parties, but more so for conservatives, as Angus King is more liberal than conservative though to the right of most DemocRATS. Republicans need to watch this race closely. Independents tend to peak early and fade as the election approaches.
What is King’s position on Obamacare?
nearly anything is better than snowe
Except for a Dem. Yes, I know she is practically Democrat. But she had an R by her name and counted toward the total for control of the Senate and the Committees.
The Maine I knew as a boy was fiercely independent. I don’t know what happened to them over the years. But the chances of electing a real conservative are just about zero.
Look to the Governor’s race in Maine and be encouraged. Doesn’t anyone have any courage for their convictions. If your in the middle all the time your like a wet dishcloth that lays around and smells.
Who’s the Tea Party candidate??
It seems to me that most articles written in the media are designed to cast doubt on a Republican with conservative tendancies. Nonsense!!!
Well in THAT case let's make sure we get an (R) then, even if it's a Kennedy!
ROTF!
Must have those (R)'s at any cost!
It's that kind of thinking that has given us our progressive government.
He!!, even Snarlin' Arlen was an (R) at one time.
Wow, what an asset he was too!
Angus King will be just another tally in the column for Harry Reid. Hopefully they do split the vote and a conservative wins.
Defend what seat? The Slam Sisters are Demonrats!
Typical 'rat.
Chock full of Massholes now! They have poisoned everywhere!
You are absolutely correct, I just have a problem with those who you never know when they will stab you in the groin with a #2 pencil, you just know they are and this skank is one of those.
That’s a laugh, the Dems having to decide to support an independent named Anus.
Destroy King in the general election by painting him as selling his loyalty for money, power and prestige.
If his loyalty to a party is for sale, so is his loyalty to Maine.
Just please, give us at least one good break.
Give us a good Constitution loving Republican.
3 months in winter of 71 in Green Harbor.
Freaken cold living on the beach during the winter don’t ya know??
I don’t know but he’s for Obama and was in 2008 as well.
He’s to the left of Snowe and will vote with the rats to control the Senate.
Ironically we need the official democrat to get as many votes as possible cause those votes will come directly out of King’s hide. What a world!
