Obama Campaign Grapples With New Voter ID Laws

WASHINGTON — Field workers for President Obama’s campaign fanned out across the country over the weekend in an effort to confront a barrage of new voter identification laws that strategists say threaten the campaign’s hopes for registering new voters ahead of the November election.

Many of the laws in question — including the ones in Florida and Wisconsin — are the subject of legal challenges by Democratic groups who say they are part of a partisan, Republican effort to dampen the turnout of voters, particularly members of minority groups, for Mr. Obama and his party.

But senior aides to Mr. Obama said the campaign was preparing for the laws to be upheld and in force this fall — just in case.

“We have to assume that these laws will be in effect in November,” Jeremy Bird, the field director for the campaign, said in an interview. “We are not allowing laws that are challenging and put in our way to stop us from doing what we need to do.”

Campaign officials declined to put a price tag on the new efforts to comply with voter identification laws, saying the extra time and expense were being built into the budgets for each state’s campaign.

Four years ago, Mr. Obama’s campaign used novel approaches to expand the pool of voters, including registration drives at barbershops and beauty salons in African-American neighborhoods. The campaign plans to expand those efforts, setting up voter registration outposts in those settings.

If the new state laws prevent the campaign from reaching those goals, it could cost Mr. Obama a second term.

Poor dems, they're finally beginning to have to actually try and win elections without massive voter fraud.

No worries though, since they have a foreign company slated to count votes in the upcoming election, they can just commit their fraud at that level instead. It's not like the Republicans will try to do anything about it other than look the other way.

The fraud will be a multipronged approach to give Obama the votes that are needed in each state.

Illegal workers - fake ID cards
Challenge ID cards of registered republicans
transporting of voter machines
counting of votes

We have to show a photo id or similar id. when we vote in every election in Virginia. What’s so hard about it?

I have a govt. id, a state driver’s license, a state disabled persons id for handicapped parking, a voter precinct card, a photo card for doing research at the National Archives system, an id. card for my cardiac stent and defibrilator implants, AAA membership, insurance cards, car insurance card/papers with home address, letters from Social Security to me, gas bills, phone bills, cable bills, water bills/county bills, state tax papers, IRS papers, county tax bills, etc., and that is just in my wallet.

The elderly, disabled and non-English-speaking legal aliens/immigrants can all get official state and local govt documents without any problems. Those who already get social services from any level of government will have govt issued id. cards for those services.

Any claim to that “poor, minorities, immigrants, and the handicapped” can’t get a government id. is a pure leftist lie and we should call them on it every time it pops up, whether on TV, radio talk shows, in newspapers, or at meetings.

Don’t let the lying leftist bastards get away with this.

Also, you can check with your local government or state agencies about what ids. you can get if you need them.

The one type of voter fraud I never see mentioned is among college students. They can easily register on campus and also at their parent’s home, then vote the “home” location absentee and the campus one in person. Voter fraud laws need to be national with all registrations checked against the national voter database to ensure no duplications.

These laws won't "dampen" any legal voter!

They won’t let a little thing like a law stop them.

Nah, we'd just like the voters that do turn out to be living, breathing US citizens. Oh, and we'd only like them to turn-out once and vote just once per election. That's not too much to ask, is it? Hey 'rats, you don't want illegal or other non-citizens voting, do you?

We are not allowing laws that are challenging and put in our way to stop us from doing what we need to do.

Well now that's chillingly honest. Is he saying they'll basically do whatever they need to in order to get the vote out - no matter what the laws say? A rare bit of honesty slips through into their "for public consumption" message.

I think what your'e describing is a secure national ID. I'd guess the US is the only first-world country that does not have it.

Unfortunately there is so much distrust of a centralized national government, national ID has never been developed here.

Let me preface that I am no Romney supporter, but if he gets the nomination I will vote for him.

One attribute Mitt has, is tenacity. I don't think after campaigning for 6 years, he will just roll over like that damn mccain did when he knew the dems cheated big time.

I don't think the nobama bunch thought ahead that the SCOTUS would turn out to be his all powerful Nemesis and the unlikelihood the Supreme Court will not see Voter ID as essential to free elections. Not a good time to be dem.

After you sign up for welfare, take your check and open a bank account. Then stop at the liquor store, then buy a pack of smokes, make a return at Walmart, pay with a check at the garage, buy a vendors license, buy a house, get a loan, pawn your stolen bling, buy a car, buy a gun, enroll your kid in school, stop at the ER and then stop at the county office to make a restitution payment and a child support payment so you don’ t go to jail. Then if you aren’t too tuckered out stop and vote...and show the same $&@”?;/ photo ID that you had to show when you performed all of the previous transactions and didn’t say a damn word.

The Democrats rely heavily upon both the dead and non-citizens for their votes; in the event that such non-citizens are disqualified in significant numbers, election victories are placed in jeopardy.

Thus, the effort to make sure such “voters” are maintained on voter lists.

Wonder if we could post prominent signs at ALL polling places stating the penalties for voter fraud?

Fathom the Hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen..

National I’d == passport. That’s the downside. States rights is another. States issue driver’s licenses. Not the fed. They’d let TSA take charge of it if feds ran it.

It wouldn’t need to be based on a national ID card. In each state, there is a Driver’s License or State ID card available. Whichever ID is used for voter registration goes into the database and is linked to the other number if one is issued, so people can’t register once with DL and again with ID.

I suppose people could still get multiple IDs from different states, but that seems like more trouble than most college students would go to. I just worry that it is ridiculously easy for them now to double their vote.

I wouldn’t mind if voting was by fingerprint or retinal scan, myself. That is the defacto standard for police ID after all.

In Washington State we have vote by mail only. I can imagine all the ways DemonRATs can stuff the ballot with fraud when the ballots now do not need to come from a real voter.

Folks, this is the year to volunteer to help in the election if you have not done that in the past. Call and ask if you can help in any way. Let it be known in your state that you are concerned about voter fraud. Also, give money to your candidate..It has never been more important than now.

YES, YES, YES, a thousand times YES! What kind of dumbed-down brain would be against showing an ID at the polls? Only those with criminal minds who want voter fraud, that’s who.
