The Justice Department today precleared Floridas Congressional map, making the GOP-friendly lines enforceable law.
The new lines, passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature and signed into law by GOP Gov. Rick Scott, are likely to lead to Democrats picking up two to four seats in November. But the Florida delegation is almost certain to remain overwhelmingly Republican. The current House delegation includes 19 Republicans and six Democrats. Reapportionment granted Florida two new seats because of increases in population.
The 1965 Voting Rights Act requires the Justice Department or the federal court in Washington, D.C., to certify new Congressional maps before they can be enforced.
In a letter to attorneys for the Legislature, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez said the attorney general does not interpose any objection to the specified changes. That means the DOJ doesnt believe the map violates the Voting Rights Act, though other entities can still sue in federal court over it.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
The article is self-contradictory. First it declares the map “GOP-friendly” and then states that Florida gained 2 new seats from the census which will both go to Democrats (likely to lead to Democrats picking up two to four seats in November.)
How, exactly, does that qualify as “GOP-friendly”???
It’s not. The Dems have to spin it some way.
where in the Constitution does if give the federal DOJ anything to do with how a state draws its congressional district lines?

If you come up with the answer to this question, we in Texas would certainly like to know.
Ted Kennedy, he just keeps on giving. Voting rRights Acts, only affects some Southern States. Those dang Rebels will have to keep paying.
Alabama, too.
Reconstruction lasted 10-15 years, tops (1865-1880).
The feds have had their feet on our Southern necks since 1965. That’s 47 years! When will it end? Are we denying ANYBODY the right to legally vote, who meet the requirements as spelled out in the Constitution?
Answer: No.
But there you go. Some free country we got here, huh?
