Mitt Romney, evangelicals seek marriage of convenience
McClatchy Newspapers ^ | April 30, 2012 | David Lightman

Mitt Romney and the Republican Party’s sizable bloc of evangelical voters are about to engage in a marriage of political convenience.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s march to the nomination proceeded largely without strong backing from the conservative Christian community.

Instead, it helped propel Rick Santorum to victories in 11 states. It’s long regarded Romney as too moderate and too willing to change his views for political expedience. And his Mormon religion is off-putting to many.

But with Romney now the only hope that conservatives have to beat President Barack Obama in November, a partnership has begun to jell.

Please meet the Yankee, RINO, Mormon from Massachusetts that millions in the South/Bible Belt wont vote for.

I think most voters with a strong Christian faith view a marriage with Romney with the same fondness that they have for homosexual marriage.
That is one of the many good reasons that Romney will lose.

We need to prepare to heal and unify the party post Romney’s defeat. If we can’t do that, it will be time to consider creating new political structures, perhaps a truly conservative party.

RCP I agree that it's early. But I am not comforted by this.
